Have been intending to get a radar detector operating on the 109 but haven't seen any mounted (with the exception of the pics of the remote mounted Whistler that was posted here a while ago).
I have a V1 that I would like to use, but not being waterproof is a major disadvantage and I would really prefer to have a portable unit I could take from bike to bike and not have to duplicate everything.
I'm interested in what you other guys have chosen where you have mounted it and how you feel your unit performs.

'Del'...I never speed..I just like to know when I am being fried with microwaves, so I can offer help to the officers to check the calibration of their equipment.

I have 2 Whistlers with the helmet remote. They work great and run about $200.00 on Ebay.

I dont use one on the bike, but if you do, you really need to use one like listed above with the helmet device so you can hear it. The flashing light won't help you if you can't see it. Mine will go from vehicle to vehicle, but on the bike I found that I just did not pay enough attention to it and got a ticket with it on the bike anyway because I did not have a device in the helmet to hear the audible BEEP.

He He He - I try NOT to offer any assistance on anything. Last time I called the troopers car a POS, I spent the night in jail.

Just to clarify, his car WAS a POS. I was mad that my tax dollars were not being used to give these guys a decent vehicle.

I use an Escort Passport 8500 X50 in my car. It has paid for itself many times over... you just gotta know their limitations. Like, if you are riding by yourself with noone else around, they are pretty much useless, as the alert you hear is the one the cop just nailed you with. If there is other traffic nearby, they are useful as long as the cop isn't just popping the ones he visualizes first.

Anyway, I saw some guy on the V-Rod forum that mounted an 8500 X50 to his bike. He made an acrylic or something case for it to keep out the water, and he wired the alerts to his instrument panel so the turn signals or something flash when he's being clocked. Hop over there and do a search. He has pics and everything, but you will have to register to view the images.

I use the Escort 8500 X50 with the H.A.R.D. system. It mounts a remote unit inside your helmet that has a red L.E.D. on a movable mast. You get a bright red flash in the face when it goes off. Saved me many times. To me, the set-up is worth every penny!

Radar detector...me...NONE ! I figure if I get caught then I probably deserved the ticket...so far I haven't been caught...knock wood  :doorag:
I'd rather spend money on something I can actually use, I just never saw a real use for them. Keeps me honest

Just got a Whistler in the mail -- haven't installed it yet.

Run detectors on all my vehicles. They have saved my arse so many times that they have paid themselves over and over. Practically every time you are going over 55 you are "breaking the law" -- if you're not doing that with the 109, you wasted your money (IMHO).

Uh oh, now you're gonna make "somebody" mad. He'll probably call you Medic1110 or something brilliant like that. I still haven't gotten over him calling me blackberries. That really hurt! ::) :joke:

Thanks for all the advice guys..I think both the 8500 X50 and Whistler have good reputations. Does anyone know if the Helmet mounted 'kit' on either of these is easier to install or more comfortable when installed. I'm miles from anywhere out in the country and it is difficult to get to see the hardware for these things..and the advertising photos don't show much.

I've read some reviews on the H.A.R.D. system. It works with the 8500 X50 and a few others. Basically you plug a wireless transmitter into the detector, and mound a wireless receiver to the helmet. Then you run a small wired light around to somewhere in your peripheral vision. When the radar detector alerts, the small light flashes in your vision. Here's a couple articles on the system. As for mounting the detector to the bike, not reas sure what options are out there... especially if you are looking for weather proof casings.

Don't want this debate to start up again, so I'll just say I was being a bit sarcastic. That being said, if you really are interested here's a link.. www.prepaidlegal.com

I use the Helmet LED that comes with the Whistler. I have to adjust it once and a while for comfort and it has only a LED light, no sound, but it works like a charm. You just have to remember to turn it on and off so you don't spend a fortune on batteries.
