I want to put LED lighting behind my new intake cutout. I want an even glow of light instead of spots of light.
Are there tricks or ideas to make a smooth lighting?
I was thinking of a colored plastic cover behind the cutout to do the trick.
Am I over thinking this?

yes, i think you are overthinking it. :D
i just got done re-adjusting some led's on my bike and i too wanted a smoother and brighter glow coming from inside my intakes.

i would recommend a "stingerz" or "sidewinderz" flexible strip because they come with 3M tape on all three sides, which in turn allows them to be mounted in three different ways. what you will want to do is mount them on their side so that the glow is cast directly at the opening of your intakes. make sure to choose a good color. blue, red, green, and orange are all very bright. other colors such as amber, pink, purple are not as bright.

simply mount the strips on the inside of your intakes and use 3M adhesive promoter. i would recommend mounting them vertically along the outer perimeter of your design and you should be good to glow.

if you need wiring help or need some of the promoter i have some extra. i also have some extra led's laying around, so depending on what color you want i might be able to help you out.

let me know if i can be of more help.

no problem, i will be more than happy to try and help. red should do a great job. and irish4life had a good point too, a pod will work also, but i tend to like a strong and bright as hell glow so i prefer the flexible strips.

PM a member on here named tugboat (sean) he sells the flexible strips in different sizes and i am sure he can help you on a great deal. keep in mind that not all led's are the same. some are cheap quality and not as bright. he sells some good quality stuff though, so you can't go wrong with him. custom dynamics, boogey lights, and chrome glow also sell good stuff.
good luck with your mod.

If you want it to have a glow. You need to diffuse the light a little. I use plastic packing material that you wrap stuff to ship. It comes in a roll and several thicknesses.. The material comes from almost clear to white in color. But it spreads the color of the LEDs evenly.

Here are some examples from my Iron Man standup.. You can easily hot melt glue this stuff inside your jugs and it's water proof.
