I know this has been asked before but I have used the search and can't find the answer.

What is the largest rear tire that can be mounted safely on a stock rim.

Do a search on "Tire Sizes" and look at, I think is the 5th thread down started by bob109 titled "tire info updated for everyone". He gives you rim sizes, tire sizes, and est. prices. The M109 has an 8.5" rim. Suzuki only recommends tires manufactured for an 8.5"rim for liability (safety) reasons.

Joec is running a 300 on the stock 109 rim.
That is the largest I know of.
There are a few running Metzeler 280 on the stock rim.
Some have quite a few miles on them.
I will get one when the stocker is worn out, another 3000 miles or so.

+ Even more running the 260

Joe had to grind off a casting something-or-other on the swingarm or driveshaft to get the 300 to fit, and he said there is no noticeable difference in size when mounted. So, basically, the 280 is the biggest bang for the buck.

Go to "search" and plug in "Tire info for everyone"....you'll get enough info to make a informed decision on what tire fits your needs!

Thanks for the help everyone.

I am heading to Galviston, TX for a bike rally this weekend and the back tire has 6300 miles. I think it will make it but if not I will have to look for a tire at the rally, and it looks like the Metzeler ME880 280/35vr-18 is for me.

From what I understand is if 280 will hold up on your bike JR it should have no problem on mine. I like to leave a little rubber off the line but never done the JR, filmed, burnout!!!

thanks again, love this sight. Everyone I run into with the 109 I tell them about it. :super:

280 will be my next rubber down under in Oz.
Makes the bike a little meaner too.
