As a rider for 50+ years, I decided to add a "foot forward" bike to my stable (all others are sport & vintage bikes). My "new to me" 2008 has only 7k miles, and looks to have been pampered. It already has the 2" lowering, aftermarket exhaust, and new tires (slightly larger rear). I have much experience "attending to" the many shifting weaknesses of my vintage road race bikes, so I hope to use some of that insight to improve the "looming" 109 2nd gear issues (it's fine right now). Our riding season here in the AZ desert is from Labor Day to Memorial Day .... When the 110'+ temps begin, we take our boats on the Colorado river, and park the bikes for the summer .... so right now is riding season for us.

Welcome to the forum! I wouldn't worry about the 2nd gear issue if it's working fine now. That only occurred on a small percentage of them, but it seemed like a lot because you heard about it when it did. I ride my 07 probably a little harder than normal and it's still shifting fine at almost 40,000 miles. Don't pamper it when putting it in gear, and don't ride the shifter.

Yep, you have "a couple" of other bikes.
Do you give them all love & equal riding time?
