What is the big deal with the Air ride that makes it $900. I see many air shocks that are half that cost.
As long as the length and mounting are the same, shouldn't it work the same?
Is it different because of pressure on our bikes? Is it size issues?

I've seen a few older bikes that use air ride shocks that look similar in size.

Has anybody tried or researched the use of another source for air ride?

There are plenty of companies that make air ride for the 9.

The Arnott is popular because it can be argued they are the best at it. They make air suspension for cars trucks and many different bikes. For our bike, it is an air-spring, so you get an actual spring on one side and the air-bag on the other. This helps to avoid the 'pogo' effect that people will talk about on other air ride systems from the two air bags.

So, can you use another air shock? Sure. Just understand why the Arnott is the most popular not only on the 9, but every other bike I have ever heard of air ride on.
