The fuel filter gets plugged up. On my 2006, I've changed it three times so far, at nearly 40,000 miles. And yes, those are the symptoms of a plugged filter.
Drain the tank and remove it. Flip it over upside down and you'll see where the fuel pump is located. Remove pump, remove filter off pump. Put on new one and reassemble.
I had to do my first filter swap at around 11,000 miles. Second at around 23,000. Third and last one, so far, at around 35,000.
I've changed fueling tactics to see if I can extend the range of these damn expensive little filters. Tractor Supply sells fuel can nozzles with filters in them. They get rid of those annoying EPA nozzles and make your can Old School. Also, made a funnel with two filters in it, medical quality mesh filters. I keep three cans of 93 octane in my garage. I transfer the fuel to a half gallon plastic liquor bottle, then pour it in the tank. So the fuel is filtered three times into the bottle, and twice more into the tank. I always top off the tank at home after every ride. We'll see if this latest filter lasts longer.
And btw, you should see some of the crap the filters I use have caught. It's no wonder the filters get plugged up.
