Seams on the 109's gas tank

Met a guy at a charity ride this past Saturday. I was telling him I did'nt like the seam on my 109 gas tank. He took chrome car door molding and put it on the bottom of his Magna's tank. We walked over to his bike to take a look. My opinion it really looked good. I think I'm going to give it a shot this weekend. If I ever figure out how to post my pictures 8)

lemme know if you can't figure out the picture thing.  you can email me the pics and i'll host them on my website. i really wanna see that trim.  was considering doing it also.
FYI alot of the VTX riders do the same
If you just stick it on it will collect water and rust out the tank seam
Most have stopped using it
those that like it slicone it on to seal out any moisture.

Spencer
Silicone it is then. I really liked the way his tank looked. Spencer thanks for the offer. I sent my pictures to Lamont and he helped me post them. Go to pics and check out my steed with orange neons. Thank you all for the tips 8)
Meant to thank Phaed for the picture offer. :D
There are two kinds of chrome avail for the tank seam!

One Brand is U shaped and has a adhesive glue at the base of the U....when you apply the product it just slips over the edge of the tank leaving a small gap ......avoid using this product....it rarely stays in place especially at the ends and it traps water.

A better brand is available from Pep Boys.....it is solid half round plastic chrome with 3M adhesive tape backing......it is the exact same width as your tank seam.....pre-cut it to length, warm it a bit with a hair dryer, and follow the instructions for removing the tape backing as you apply the chrome to the tank.....it fits so good it looks factory.
need pics please!

Purchased truck door edge molding from Avery at Advance auto yesterday. It is more u shaped but really snug on the seam and I don't see a gap. Took it to bike night yesterday and got alot of comps. on it. What intrest me is the second product you talked about with the 3M and covers the whole seam that's the look I want so I guess I'll be taking a ride to PEP Boy's soon. As soon as my wife informs me of our dig. camera's ware abouts I'll post some pics with both products. Has anyone else tried molding on there 109 seam or posted pics of one or will I be the 1st.

The item you want from Pep Boys is actually "wheel molding" by TRIMBRITE Products. The package info is ( T3605C 3/8" X 18" Wheel Molding, Round Chrome ) It's manufactured by SPARTAN PLASTICS CANADA, LTD. It has professional grade 3M adhesive.
Thanks for the info. I'll probably pick some up tomorrow...

Did you ever find the chrome? I visited a local Pep Boys yesterday and they have the chrome in stock....it's made by someone other than TRIMBRITE but it's the identical product.
No I haven't had the chance to stop in yet. I have a few things to do this morning around the house (honey do). I should be able to pick some up this afternoon. I posted 1 picture of the stuff I have on it now but I still want to cover the whole seam.
