Took my rims to the local powder coater, here in portland, he told me he'll have them back in about a week. Week went by and nothing, called him up he told me that the wheel has a special coating on it and the first time they did it the powder came off in some areas. Can this happen, and if he re coats will it hurt the rims ???

First off painters are notoriously slow and you can add 1-2 weeks of lead time to whatever they tell you. I don't believe he knows what he's talking about with regards to the coating. I just got my rims back (they told me 3-4 days and it took 2 weeks). They didn't need to be dipped & stripped, just sanded and powdercoated. They turned out great.

Make sure that they mask the inside of your hub and the face of where your rotors bolt to. If they don't then it will hard to reinstall your bearings back in and all the paint will have to be grounded out.

Oh and they charged me $100.00 total to powedercoat both stock rims gloss black.
