I was watching "Disorderly Conduct caught on tape" the other night and seen an episode where 3 or 4 officers where trying to run this guy on a dirt bike off the road just for driving a dirt bike on the road. :dontknow: Many times they pulled in front of him and slammed on the brakes resulting in him running into the back of them. As many as 4 times they tried forcing him off the road by running in the side of him or trying to pit him.

This went on for ten minuit's all with the guy wearing no gear, not even a helmet with speeds up to 70 mph. Don't get me wrong this guy was definitely wrong and should have been arrested but lets face it he could be dead right now for something stupid. He was probably drinking or had a suspended license.

"On Any Sunday".

Just follow him until he ran the damned thing out of gas. :joke: Let's face it, it's only a dirtbike, the range on it can't have been that impressive.

Considering he was riding a dirt bike, I'm surprised he wasn't intentionally heading for the dirt himself, instead of staying up there on the tarmac with the cop cars as he did. Obviously has never seen the old movie, "On Any Sunday". ;)

If there were 4 of them, why not box him in???
Just playing devil's advocate here:

Follow him? He is capable of going places no police car could. Following him is not really a practical option. Plus, do you want your tax dollars paying for a 4 car escort for some Jack-A tolling around of the street on a dirt bike for an hour or more?

Box him in? Maybe the 4 officers were prior members of the Blue Angles and are capable of pulling off a 4 car formation that does not leave an out for a dirt bike, but short of that, how practical is that solution?

I am just saying it is easy to dislike actions taken, but practical and effective alternatives are often harder to come to.

Cops do a tough job.

Why blame the cops here? Was the rider not breaking the law? Could the rider not have stopped all of the police action anyone might find distasteful by simply stopping?

He may have started with a simple infraction and was looking at a small fine. He chose to run and stepped it up to a felony justifying the response he got.

One question I'd have to ask the rider is, if he's on a dirt bike, why didn't he just go cross country & leave the LEOs on the side of the road?

Not blaming the cops. And it doesn't take being a member of the blue angles to pull off a simple boxing in of a vehicle, no matter if it is a scooter or monster truck. Cops do generally get that sort of training during the driving school. Granted it is rarely done, but still. it isn't like it is a foreign concept.

I don't have an issue with what the cops did. If the guy didn't pull over for them, he already ahs a death wish. Why not fulfill it?

I am sure there is more to the story then what you saw. You can legally ride a dirtbike on most roads provided the bike is plated and has turn signals, and a tail light.

If he did wrong, pay the price, pull over or get forced over. One way or another he'll stop. Do what I do, I ride a dual sport "DR-650" as well as the 9 and 4 other motorcycles, call me a motorcycle hoarder, oh ya, feels so good:doorag:

I agree he did wrong and should be arrested but not dead. I can see if he was a known felon and had warrants but sheeesh. If I was an officer I am sure I would have tried to stop him also but not to the point of running him off the road into the trees.

Some states/county's have a do not chase type law when it comes to chasing bikes to keep from killing someone.

What I found hilarious was that the commentator for the show kept saying, "they are trying to stop him before he hurts himself" ???

It would be really helpful to know why the cops tried to pull him over in the first place. You start off by saying they shouldn't have done this and shouldn't have done that without knowing what the dude on the bike did to warrant the chase. Hitting the bike with the car is considered deadly force, cops won't do that just for driving without a license. In regards to the run out of gas, I've gone riding in the desert for hours without needing to gas up. The cars are gonna run dry long before the bike will.

as stated above he was chased for driving a dirt bike on a public road. they must have been some back country roads because I didnt see another vehicle the whole chase.

i have already been pulled over for the same thing but of course i stopped. ;):D

I am not trying to start a fight or to turn this into cop bashing, I just think there could be another way

If driving a dirt bike on a street is the reason for the chase then at least some of our officers here would have just backed off and said "it ain't worth getting someone killed over". I believe that would be the best choice for all parties involved. Hopefully the kid will grow up someday and quite doing stupid stuff...... but some never do. For them life is usually cut short. To bad.:-\

I am thinking boxing in a dirt bike or a monster truck might be a little different than anything a cop would receive training for.

A car, sure, but for a dirt bike, they would need to keep the gaps between the police cars very small so there was no place for the bike to escape as they slowed down the 'box'. Thus, the reference to the Blue Angles, but even their tight formations would let a dirt bike out.

For the monster truck, well, I am just having fun imagining that one.

Keep in mind that is all the show told you. Those shows are notorious for leaving out huge parts of the back-story.

And by stopping, you did not commit the felony of running and therefore they provably would not have been justified in killing you.

I don't care what the loser did, if you run from the cops you get what you get. I am SOOOO tired of listening to people who have no clue what cops do complain about how they do their job.

I don't care what the infraction is, if you run from the cops you should be hunted down and made an example of, if that happened more often there would be less people running.

just my .02 of course, as usual I expect 100 people with no LE experience to jump in and bash everything anyone with a badge has ever done,

Then why did you start a thread about some crap reality television show that sensationalizes and exaggerates police pursuits narrated by a C-list actor? Psssst...it's a television show. Calm down and have a cream soda.
