Question about the 160/60 Metzeler front tire

My 260 rear & 160/60 front Metzeler tires are scheduled to be delivered to my house tomorrow (4/7/10). I wanted to know from folks that have been running the 160/60 front if there was any added height for ground clearance when you mounted the 160/60 front tire. If it does increase the ground clearance, does anyone know exactly how much height was gained or added with the 160/60 front tire? I am hoping I will gain some additional height in the front to avoid scraping as much as possible. I have heard the 160/60 does give more clearance, but it seems odd since the stock tire is a 170/70 which seems like it would be a taller tire than the 160/60.

Someone/anyone please provide some feedback on this as soon as possible.

The stock tire is a 130/70, not a 170/70. Once you have it mounted, you'll notice the difference in the clearance of the front fender. I loosened my fender mount bolts and stuck a screwdriver between the tire and the back of the fendr to maximize my clearance. I don't know how much more clearance the 160/60 gives, but I know I used to scrape the mount brackets for my forward controls, and now I scrape the end of the peg. It might only be 1/2", but every little bit helps.

I have to say, I was a little concerned going phat front and back. But I can honestly say, the 280/160 combo, to me, handles way better than stock, and way better than the 250/160 combo I had previously. Might be that I'm lowered front and back, don't know for sure. But the 280/160 is a surprisingly good combination for me. :bigthumbsup:

just for clarity, you also mixed a E3 250 with the Metz 160 front?

Me too ! had a stock size metz for 8000 miles with a E-3 250 . about 500 miles on the new set-up . Way better than stock
