New member with questions about modifying stock exhaust

Hey everyone. I'm a new member here because everyone seems very knowledgeable with these bikes. I am mechanically inclined but there is no diagram on here that states what is what with the stock exhaust. Both end caps are cut out and I can see the inside of the exhaust there is a long tube in the middle and 2 tubes or chambers on either side of it. Are those the baffles? I read somewhere inside the main tube there is a piece of metal but cutting through it will expose the cat. I have a 2008 c109rt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. I'm not familiar with the C109 exhaust, but I assume it's similar to the M109. On the M, the baffles that everyone talks about drilling out is inside the center tube. There are usually two of them, and you can cut them out with a 1 1/4" bimetal hole saw with an extension on it. Once those are gone you can technically see all the way up to the cat, but that's just the way it's done.

Hi welcome aboard. If you search in the C109 subforum for "drill template" you can find a pdf printout of Al's Autocad template to drill holes at the exhause ends that he put on the forum as a pdf file and I am attaching it here. This would be a first stage of increasing the sound of the stock exhaust. If drilling the holes does it for you great if not you can find information on drilling the inner baffles (second and third stage of sound increase) I drilled my exhaust ends using Al's template and I was happy with the results so I stopped there (I leave for work early in the morning and blub blub blub out of my neighborhood at 5:30). If you print the pdf file out at 100% and cut the outer circle and use an exacto knife on the inner circle you can place the template on the end of the exhaust and drill small pilot holes to get the locations accurate then the finished hole size. Using the template it came out great and looks like it came from the factory that way. Search the C109 subforum for "baffle" if you want to get more sound than just drilling the end of the exhaust. Good luck. Rich

What did you do just shorten it and weld different tips on it?
