M109R Rear End Viberation

Hello all. I'm new to riding and this is my first bike. I got my M109r new in 2008 and have put around 3,400 miles on it. I've kept up with all the maintenance. I have noticed a vibration in the rear end during acceleration and when I had it checked at the bike shop they told me there was nothing wrong with my bike, everything is set to factory specifications and that the vibration was a normal characteristic of the M109r. Can anybody share with me their experience and if their bike vibrates in the rear end during rapid acceleration. I have also had the tires checked for balance and was told they were balanced. Thanks Ken

It is a pretty typical problem.

Welcome to the Vibration of a Nation!
:welcome: to the forum first of all.

Some vibration is normal. This is a V-Twin. How do you it is coming from there rear? At what speeds, at what throttle range? Information please. Help me help you. :D
:welcome:and :congrats: on the 9er

and yes the vibration is kinda a comon issue
are you on your first set of tires still ?
all fluids new ?

might be some ideas.... :doorag:

If it starts around 3500 rpm, it's just the normal vibration of the bike. You can stop it somewhat by doing the "bluey fix", which involves bending the tabs over the clutch hub springs down so the springs can't move so much. It quietens the clutch rattle you get when the engine is in neutral and the clutch lever is out too.
I have an 08 with no vibration issues at all (which I had maybe some blonde would jump on the rear seat ! ).

You said it is during hard acceleration.......could you possibly be feeling the torque output at work ?
I love the vibration mine gets. Usually from low revs if you just open it up or as you come out of a corner and give it the full berries. I love how it squats at the rear as well when you open up the throttle.

I am actually surprised at how little the bike vibrates to be honest. It basically has the last 2 cylinders off a 7.0ltr V8 mated up to a gear box in a tube frame. I expected it to vibrate itself to pieces between services, but its very smooth. So, in all, for such a large bore bike with huge amount of throw in the crank, you are bound to get something comming through as vibration somewhere in the drive line.

Thanks for the welcome.. I can feel the vib on my butt and nothilng through my hands. Example: I'am sitting at a red light and on green I take off (not real hard but kinda hard) I feel the vib all the way to crusing speed.

My wife told me to quit complaining, she likes the vib..:clap2:
cool

it's the nature of the beast!!!!!
my bike does this to but only under hard acceleration,,

Squats??? This torquey V with the shaft-drive does anything but "squat" when accelerating. If nothing, it stands up. Scares my wife to death!!! lol :super:
:welcome: To the forum and the viberation is normal!!!Post some pic of the beast!!!
vibs

:congrats: I HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY VIBS DURING MY RIDES. MY 9 IS MY FIRST BIKE ALSO. THE RIDE IS DIFFERENT FROM BIKE TO BIKE. THE PROBLEM MAY BE YOU. MEANING YOU, MAYBE LIKE ME NEED TO RIDE OTHER BIKES TO COMPARE. I HAVE ONLY ROAD MY 9 AND MY FRIEND'S 9. THE BIKES RIDE DIFERENTLY.....8)
I have an issue on slightly more then lightb th throttle on take off. The back tire bounces/shakes violently

That's called clutch shudder. The clutch plates get dry and instead of slipping a little when you let it out until it fully catches, it catches quickly and releases. It's like you're pulling the clutch in and out rapidly. You can search on here for the "push pin mod" to help with it, or upgrade it to a later model clutch that has one additional plate and new wave washer.
Also, this thread is 14 years old, my start a new one if you need more help. :)

Welcome to the forum too!

I have only had my 9 for about 3 weeks now. Last night while riding with my wife on the back, pulling from 90MPH to >100 you can feel a "chatter" in the rear. Doesn't feel like a wobble or translate to the grips or front at all. Once you release a bit of throttle it goes away, if you twist again it comes back. I had to do a bunch of wire work when changing the license mount and signals and am fearing that the "new" clutch was just smoke from the seller. I am going to change all of the fluids and check clutch, do I need to pull both sides of the engine cases to check or just the left side?

Thank you all in advance, have already learned a bunch from this group!
The clutch is behind the right side cover, but the lever that the cable connects to that operates the clutch is on the left. Left being clutch lever side and right being throttle side.

If the clutch is causing it by slipping, you should see the rpm's move up before the speed starts increasing.
