Hi all,

I thought I would put this up, been waiting to take pictures for a while.

I did this mod to all my sport bikes I previously owned, and quickly did it to the 109 when I got her.

The trick is simple, you get another rear seat, and strip it down to the pan, then bolt the mounting plate of a GIVI top case to it.

The advantages are that it's waterproof, fully locked to the bike and locked shut as well. (you need a key to open it AND to remove it)

It is also totally removable so that when you take off that seat pan and put the solo cover back on, that's it!

The disadvantage is that you can't have a passenger. In my case, this was not a problem as I always ride solo when going far enough to need luggage.

For the 109, I decided to keep the seat cover material, so that it would keep a somewhat finished look, here are a few pictures...

Enjoy!

Well it does the job, buy I can't say I like the looks. And I also realize we don't have many options but, did that mount destroy your stock rear seat? I realize you have gels, but did you sacrafice the stock rear seat?

I did this mod before getting the gel seats. But yes, you have to sacrifice a rear seat, which I had bought a spare from a member here!

Granted the look is not the best, but when I hit the road for a few days, it's nice for me to know my stuff is locked AND water proof! That wins over appearance. (Of course, when going on an afternoon ride, the cowl is on the bike!!)

Your Right! And a back rest added for you is a great idea, as well!

That's a great idea. I have a couple sets of saddle bags that click on and off in a few minutes, but I like the top case better.:bigthumbsup:

Will the cowl fit inside the case so you could pack it with you and swap it out?

I hope you can put any other (another) back seat if you would have. Get another one and you will have all combinations. Other then this, very smart idea.

That's a great idea...thanks for sharing!! I like that it's all locked in place so when you stop for dinner, you don't have to worry about your stuff getting stolen.:bigthumbsup::bigthumbsup:

First want to say awesome thinking out of the box. I have a question. I have a bad back. How hard is it to swing your leg over. That bag would be cool for a longer trip. Loosing a stock rear seat would be no big loss. My wife won't sit on it anyway. Says its a brick. Working on a smaller one for just in town But for going a couple of hundred or a weekend it looks like a great idea. And it does not sit so high as to cause you to be top heavy.

That really depends on the size of the case you buy, mine is a 34(or 39) Liter capacity, but they go Larger! I never tried to fit the cowl, but I know my full-face helmet fits inside if that helps.

Yes, as I mentionned, I bought an extra rear seat when I did this so as to not use mine. This way, I can still install a rear seat when needed.

It's not so bad, but obviously a little higher than usual. I had a torn ligament in my right leg, so it made it painful to swing my leg above this case from time to time, so on long trips, I would sometimes get on my bike from the right side, just passing my left leg above the front seat, not a full swing like usual. Hard to explain, but I'm sure you get the picture!

If anyone has more questions, I'm happy to help!
