Reposting this due to my previous posts getting deleted... this should be a sticky or something...

The occasional stuck on high RPM on start has occurred on my 2006 M109R under every possible scenario... BONE STOCK, numerous combinations of the following: all flavors of JSD TREs, GIPro, B&B, FI2000R, air mods, drilled pipes, Roadhouse pipes, different shades of plugs, sunspots, cold, hot, night, day, rain, dry, snow, 1-up, 2-up, uphill, downhill, sideways, indoors, waiting for the ECU test cycle to complete, not waiting, etc., etc., etc.

The high idle on start has nothing to do with mods or waiting for some cycle to complete before hitting the start button. It's a FACTORY GLITCH (as in design flaw) in the Idle Speed Control (ISC) Valve. The ISC valve is that space ship looking thing on top of your airbox that has 3 hoses coming out of the back end. Its purpose is to provide the optimum idle speed under various conditions and improve cold starts.

Case in point... enough 2007 GSX-R1000 owners sufficiently complained about the same problem to the proper authorities that Suzuki had to issue a formal recall. Suzuki redesigned the ISC valve for the GSX-R1000 and replaced the valve at no cost. I'm not aware of any similar problems on that bike since so their redesign appears to have worked. So maybe we 109 owners just haven't complained enough. Or maybe we have? :dontknow: The M109R's ISC valve was redesigned for 2009 and later models. The old part number for 2006-2008 models was 18117-48G00-E00. The new replacement for 2009-2010 (and just happens to fit all previous models) is 18117-48G00. Note that redesign of the M109R's ISC valve does not guarantee that they actually fixed the problem. Only time will tell and I'm not willing to shell out $150 to test the new design on my 2006. So... the question we should be asking is:

Have any 2009-2010 M109R owners experienced the stuck on ridiculously high idle problem? :dontknow:

08 r-2 bought last sept . have 4200 miles on it and filled it up last sunday ,fired it up and high idled for about 8 seconds then dropped to idle. this is the first time but i have a funny feeling this is just the beginning.hope i am wrong though.

Thanks bro, but we already know that 2006-2008 109s have this problem. I'm looking for input from 2009-2010 owners. They have the newly designed valve. :bigthumbsup:

09 2000 miles if 1150 rpms is high ,happens on some occasions when it warm but goes back in specs between 900 to 1000 after it idles a minute or two. not really a problem. ride safe :bigthumbsup:

I would say that is normal for a cold bike.

Your observation is normal and happens on all 109s.

When those of us with 06-08 109s experience the abnormal problem starting up, the bike's RPMs shoot up to 2,000-5,000RPM and nothing you do will bring it back down other than shutting the bike down and restarting.

09 le with High Idle Speed

Happened to me the first time yesterday on my 09 LE with 3700 miles.

Fired up the bike in the morning after sitting in the parking lot at work all night and the bike fired up and idled fine. Rode across the parking lot to meet up with a co-worker to get something from him he brought in for me and shut the bike off. It sat there for about 10 mins while we talked and then I fired it back up and took off. It was ideling at aboout 1500 rpms. First stop sign I came to, I noticed the idle and shut it off with the Kill switch. Moved the throttle from stop to stop a few times thinking it might be a cable binding or something like that. Restarted the bike and Idle dropped right back down to normal (750rpm ??). Then tonight when I fired it back up to come to work, it now idles at 2250 rpm and for the entire 35 minute 20 mile ride on the backroads, it never changed. Even stopped and restarted it a few times on the way when no one was around without change.

I guess its off to the stealer in the morning for repair. Close to the 4K mile service anyway. Will post later with the prognosis. :verymad:

High Idle Once

I had the problem about two weeks ago. I pulled the DA move of leaving the ignition on and runnig down the battery. I plugged in the charger for a bit but figured I had enough juice to start the bike. When it started, it idled at about 1200 - 1500 rpms. Typical for mine is about 600 - 700 rpms. I ran around for about an hour. Every stoplight/stop sign the bike idled high.

I finaly stopped to get gas and turned the bike off. When I re-started, all was well and no problems since.

I figured it was just the bike running hot to charge the battery. Guess I need to pay a bit more attention.

I see where you have a TRE on your bike from TDE. I know LOTS of guys have had the high idle problem once they installed a TRE. You should pull it and then check your bike.

My 9 does just the opposite of what it seems most others do. Mine idles at normal speed 900-1000 RPM when first started, then idles at 1200 when fully warmed up. Now I'm wondering if it is the ISC valve, and not out of sync throttle bodies. This is turning into a ver perplexing problem. :dontknow:

Thanks for the info. I will do that if it happens again. When I left work this morning I made sure to wait after turning on the key for the complete speedo and tach cycle before starting. It idled fine. After getting home, it sat for about an hour and then we took it out for a 100 mile ride and it worked perfectly the entire time. :dontknow:

Unsure whats up, but will keep watching it.

Snake and I both have the same unit from TDE. I have had no high idle issues. My bike has functioned identically as before at start, just way different through the gears.

So I wonder.......

Most bikes with a TRE installed, have a raised idle speed, usually between 950-1100 rpm's. I think what everyone is refurring to is a start-up rpm of 2000 or more that won't go down to normal. I've experienced it several times on my 06, generally I shut it off, wait 10 second or so and restart it. I thought the TRE was the blame after I installed it, remove it and the bike still did it, so the TRE is back in and has been there for 13,000 miles.

I agree that this is a flaw in the bike, maybe not a valve problem as much as a program/software/hardware problem.

Yea, I really don't see how the tre could cause the problem. Its no different than starting a stock bike in 4th gear and there is no difference if it is started in neutral cause the tre function (4th gear emulation) is bypassed.

I know this is an old thread but I'm having the complete opposite low idol between two and 500 rpm's. After installing my PowerPro is anyway check these units

I saw a youtube video on this. On the M109r's you have to let it fully go through its start up cycle then start your 9. So turn the key and then flip the fuel pump on and set for about 7-10 seconds then start it up. If you start it while it is still going through that initial start up phase then you could get a 2,000+ RPM idle.

I saw a youtube video on this. On the M109r's you have to let it fully go through its start up cycle then start your 9. TRIED BUT KEEP DOING ,RESOLVE SOMETIMES ONLY
