The harness is wired wrong

Use a slim item like a toothpick to back the pins out of the harness and switch the pin locations.

No big deal.

The whine is normal.

Yes, it is because your ballast is too close to the bulb. Move it back 2 or 3 inches, it will go away.

Shawn, is that for sure? I get the same whine from mine and thought it was normal. I had it mounted on the rear plastic panel and then moved it to on top of the headlight, but I thought it was there in both cases.

Kind of sounds like the Starship Enterprise firing up, what with the fuel pump priming, the STCV cycling, and the ballast whining. :D

At least I don't have the SET valve creaking anymore. That kind of spoiled the thoughts of blasting to warp 5.

The ones mounted on my Hummer are as far from the bulb as the wire lets them be and they still whine.

I have found this true in all but 2 units I've installed. Some, you just can't get far enough away, but I've repositioned a few with success. Mine was one of them. Then I re-painted my bike, and secured it to the head light cover, without checking 1st. Whine is back.:-\
