I installed a RIS gas cap and soon afterwords my gas gauge started freaking out..
1=when ever i took the gas cap off...it would sound like it was under major pressure..
2=within the first 50 miles the gauge would read between 1 and 2 bars..So i would top the tank off with only 1.5 gal.
3=yesterday when i took the cap off,,i actually heard what sounded like the tank poppin back into place!!!!
4=So i reinstalled the stock cap..And although the pressure sound has stopped..The gauge is still freaking out!!!

Any thoughts will be appreciated...

Did you cut holes in the original rubber gasket before reinstall? You have to cut two openings in this gasket to line up with the two holes drilled in the R.I.S. cap. Cap and tank needs to vent, so pressure does not build up.

If your cap does not have the two holes drilled through the cap, it needs to go back to R.I.S., or where you bought it.

I would send it back.:verymad:
I couldn't agree more!

No pressure release therefore it will result in all that you have mentioned in your thread.

Get rid of it!!

You're lucky it has been building pressure. When that cap first came out folks had problem with it creating a vacuum in the tank and the tank would dent inward because of it.

The problem with them was that there are no vent holes in the top of it. Everything is fine down below, but nothing to let it actually vent out the top part of it. On the early models some were sent back and they drilled a couple small holes in them, and the later models should have them in it already. Some didn't like the visible holes though.

Your rubber gasket has two nips that insert into the original cap to hold it in place. If you cut those nips out of the gasket, the two holes created should then line up with the holes in the R.I.S. cap. I would try this and see if it clears up the problem. If it does not, then I would send it back to whomever you bought it from for a refund.

This R.I.S. cap does look good. I just received mine a few day ago and so far so good. There are a few people here that have been burned by R.I.S. and that company does not have a good reputation for correctly addressing problems.

JMO ... but I would try the fix above before going further.
