It may have had something to do with pumping oil through the motor but it had nothing to do with proper oil level. I've owned four M109s since 2006, and well aware of oil issues. Rolling up the highway it seemed to have lost some power and then blew a hole through the engine case. I don't remember exactly what the shop said went wrong first but an internal part failed, created shrapnel, and caused havoc. I've already bought an engine and my 2018 is being repaired under an extended warranty. Most engine troubles I have seen are related to the bike being run low on oil.
Have a guy in our local club with that issue right now.
I beat my bike like a red-headed stepchild and it just keeps going.
But I check the oil before each ride and top it off when needed.
The 109 is finicky when it comes to oil, too much and it pukes, too little and bearings give up the ghost.
What exactly did the dealer say failed? They should be able to give you something more specific than just catastrophic failure.
