just got done changing the oil and all I can say is what a pain in the ass. I put exactly 3.8 qts in. after warming it up for 15 minutes and then cooling down for 3, I did this twice. is it really needed to warm it up another 15 minutes if I need to add more oil?

Amen! If you put the right amount back in, don't worry about it too much. Check it in the morning (cold check) and see what it shows, that's how I have done mine the last 3 years. Don't start the bike up or move it, just pull the dipstick out and see what it shows. Leave it sitting over night or at least several hours before checking it. It shows the same as a hot check will and is more consistent.
