Ok, I need a backrest within the next 3 weeks and would like to hear from you (and see your pics of piece on the bike) to make a decision asap. Please include Price$, retailer name, opinion on quality, pics, and shipping time. There are alot of us out here ready to buy backrest so the info would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there! I have a rest similar to Aussie109's:

Go to www.metcruze.com.au

I was like you guys trying to figure out the backrest issue and got tired of waiting on Suzuki. I've posted this response on several strings related to backrests. Hope it helps.

Garry Unger in NSW Australia did a conversion on mine which comes out the back of the passenger pillion and has a luggage rack as well. You can get it with or without rack, large or small pad. He even powdercoated mine black. The hardware is integrated into the mounting bracket of the passenger seat & has some forward/backward adjustment via 2 set screws...you can even take the back rest off with only two small grommeted holes visible. I will try to post some photos later if I can. In the meantime, if you want I can email some photos of it on my bike. Very clean and sturdy. I think total cost including shipping there and back was $300-350. Turnaround time from the time I sent it until I got it back was 10-14 days. I am very pleased with it as is my girlfriend. Check them out! Tell them Michael from Tennessee sent you.

If your looking into a back rest for the driver then I hear yeah. I'm anxiously waiting for something myself. But until that arrives a good solution, for a long trip that you would need to pack for anyway, would be getting a sissy-bar mounted luggage that either has a drivers back-rest built in or one that can double as a back-rest. T-bags, Tourmaster and Kuryakyn all make luggage with similar features.

Him and another member here had ( issues ) with credit card charges ...Id be very scared of dealing with this guy.Thats all im gonna say about it.In the end the guy got his seat back and liked it according to the member. But that was after he spent a bunch of time with his bank card company on the phone chasing charges and trying to find out about the charges from the escort service on his credit card from austraila and other charges ::) He also got on here and decided to start trouble calling people names and such.Real prof, guy ::) ::) ::)
We have seen that the concept used for the Aussie mod can be done cheaply at home.....
No way am I going to pay that much, ship my seat to the down under AND worry about my CC

When I get the money I will be buying the Suzuki Gel seat, which also comes with a second passenger seat...
Then I will start working on my own version

I hear ya re: Gel seat. As I mentioned above, I'm very pleased with my passenger setup (as is the soon to be Missus). However, I came from the factory undertall (5' 8" in the am and 5' 7" by the end of the day or a good ride) and find myself wishing I were closer to the tank with more support from behind.

Do any of you guys know if the gel seat from Suzuki is bolstered anymore in the rear or any closer to the ground....OR is it the same pattern as the factory seat?

I believe it may be slightly narrower near the tank than the stock seat, which should give more downward stretch to your legs... Maybe it's not.

Have you raised your handlebars (swivel upward) ? I hear this can give an inch or two to your reach for the bars.

For the seat, I think I would have it recovered, and take some foam from the bottom and add it to the back of the drivers seat, this should drop you down, and move you forward a bit.

Sounds like a great idea! There's a guy locally that has done some motorcycle seat mods. I'll tear into it and if I botch it up too badly, I'll just take it to him.
Thanks again for the followup.

Good opportunity to change the foam to GEL

I saw a post somewhere on here... You'll need to search, you can buy GEL slabs ready to cut and place :D

This is what I did and works very well, took a couple hours to complete. It is sturdy and wifey says its comfortable. As far as I know neither Suzuki or Cobra actually have there's available yet which is why I resorted to making my own from the above listed post.

I tell ya what by the time the major manufacturers come out with there different product lines for the 109 the people of this board will have for the most part have them all figured out on how to do it there own or with a litle help here and there and for a fraction of what the big guys are gonna wanna charge. Between all the different guys on this board I dont think theres much that aint been done or figured out yet how to do  Thats pretty cool
Gotta love the internet........ And Lamonster  :doorag:
