ABS on an M109R?

I wonder Suzuki will eventually include ABS brakes on the M109

How're the brakes on the M109 anyway? Are they so awesome that there isn't any need for ABS brakes? ::)

I don't have an M109 yet, and I was curious about its stopping power

mine stops pretty well. haven't had a problem with lock-up. had to hit 'em pretty hard a couple days ago and got stopped right nicely.
Early on when trying to learn the brakes I locked up the rear, have yet to lock up the front (Fortunately).

I'd say for how big and heavy it is, it stops pretty quickly. I can stop it faster than my wifes C50 if were doing the same speed.
I shut mine down from about 55 mph to 0 in a very short space.I was impressed! :doorag:
Brakes are right off the GSXR :D ...more braking power than really needed I would bet.
The brakes seem to have plenty of power but be careful with the rear brake. I have only hit them once real hard at about 40 on black top and the rear locked up and started coming around. This is a common problem on HD's.
It is a good idea to practice stopping as fast as possible at all speeds you ride at without locking the rear. When I took the advanced riding course I was suprised that I and everyone in the class had a problem doing this and I have been riding 40 years.

I left a 20 foot skid mark with the front on cold tires and by some miracle kept it upright.

I got a call awhile back after my rear-rotor was replaced from Suzuki on this subject. Personally I am opposed to ABS on any vehicle especially bikes, the loss of feel while braking under need to steer conditions is a detriment in my oppion. The second reason on snow/ ice you may as well have drum brakes the vehicle doesn't know road conditions. I have had too many in town situations driving from job to job with all of the in-a-hurry to go nowhere drivers on cells to rely on anything but the anti-lock disc all the way around. The government and manufactures will decide for us this am am sure of. My rant is complete thanks

If I remember right, Honda is gonna have ABS on most of their bikes very soon. Suzuki has already added it as an option to cheaper bikes like the sv and dl650 as an option. I think its coming. Adds complexity and cost but it could be worth it. Plus wouldn't you like to go 100mph and just once pull the front brake with everything you had..just once? I don't think I could rewire my brain to try it but it would be fun
Some of the best systems now work pretty well according to all I have read. I believe the latest from Honda and BMW would surprise allot of people to know how well they work. I just think that, like cars, they needed a few generations to make it work better/more seamlessly. They will be the first to tell you that it does not really help when leaned way over, just when going straight or leaning mildly.
I think the hardest thing for them to do is walk that fine line between letting someone good use all their brakes, but save them in the wet, against the everyday rider who would need them to kick in earlier as they don't really have the level of control of the better riders.

It would be great to have for the wet weather that is for sure. A way to shut it off might be nice for expert riders, but even if you made them sign a contract and swear an oath after watching a movie after the 3hr instructor led class someone would still sue the company because it was shut off when they needed it. If they give a way to shut off safety, no matter how idiot proof you make it there is always someone who is MORE of an idiot who knows a lawyer.

I would have paid the extra coin to have it on this bike, as with any others I was thinking about.

PS don't give me a button, I know a lawyer :D

I've never had to hit the breaks hard other than playing with them. I find the bike stops very well. The few times I had to stop a bike hard ( not the 09) , I saw it coming and was ready for it. So are you going to get one?
You have to get used to them.

Me?
I was not sure who you meant. If I bought another 109 in the future and it was available I would. My current next dream bike comes with them.

I locked my front tire for 46 feet, then I high sided here when she got traction...

ABS would be a nice addition...

I guess no one here watched National Geographic's Crash Science on motorcycles,,, ::)
Huh? Why don't ya bring us up to speed?
Kinda hard to explain, it was pretty in depth. Describing in pain staking detail how different types of crashes/wrecks happen. With ABS, Anti-Slip, and this other new one, I cannot remember what they called it but its when you are down shifting using the engine as a break and it stops the back wheel from lock-up. But with these technologies a very high percentage of accidents would be preventable.

Emilio, if you had had the ABS/Anti-slip you most likely would not have laid her down. Just my 2 cents.

I would have loved to have ABS in my 9 beofre thre accident...
