For those along the coast in FL, AL, MS, LA....... have you noticed that when riding on major roads (i.e. I-10) that it feels like you are being sand-blasted?? I've been down in Mobile since 1986 and have ridden regularly with no problems with extraneous stuff from the roadway but, since Hurricane Katrina, it seems like the roads are paved with sand and rock.

Anyone else notice this phenomenon??

Jr and I have talked about being "sand blasted" alot.....with the weather problems and the fact that Florida, in particular, uses sand instead of dirt for construction, there is no question that there is a noticeable difference.

Even when we ride back roads, it never fails, but a dump truck will pass and we get another blast !

Needless to say.....we don't like it !

That's why I ride with a full face helmet, inspite of 90+ degree temps and 90%+ humidity in Houston.

It's a left coast thing too...The 110 Fwy into San Pedro got hurt by a few bigger pieces...that stuff stings just like rain at 90 MPH...
