Hi all! I recently purchased an intruder m1800r, but I have a problem.. I understood that this motorcycle comes with a problem from the factory in gear 2 my motorcycle goes into gear 2 3 4 5 fine, but for me the problem would be that when I accelerate it in gear 2 it starts grinding. it does not jump out of gear and continues its acceleration but grinds has anyone encountered this problem? what could it be from?
My model is M1800r from 2012

Welcome to the forum, Denis. That is one that I've never heard of. Are you sure it's a grinding noise and not just the straight cut gears in these? Normally, as you say, the problem with 2nd gear is it jumps out under acceleration. Does the grinding stay the same as you accelerate?
If grinding, drop and check your oil. Also cut open your oil filter and check that.
They would be the firsts step I'd take if I heard any "grinding" as such.
Hopefully comes out clean.

You can get magnetic drain plugs for just about anything at goldplug.com

no, it grinds once or twice during the entire acceleration but it doesn't jump from the right

I responded to your other thread.
Shift 1 -> 2 like you mean it. Try shifting at slightly lower revs too.

agreed. I dont have grinding going from 1-2 but it is klunky asf if the RPM's are higher so I shift in lower RPM's
The only time I hear someone discuss a grinding sound while it was already in gear was when they discussed drive shaft failure. Can you try to verify where the noise is coming from?
My wife's has done that from time to time but it is when she is lazy about shifting. I have the motor out to freshen it up and will be looking at the transmission tomorrow and report back. That will tell us if there was anything going on, or her assessment of lazy shifting was the culprit.

Time for the update. Her transmission looked brand new. Not as much as a mark on the shift fork, so it was 100% lazy shifting on her part. Motor is all done and bike is back on the road with a built transmission since I was already in there.

A quote from the wife, now that she has 100 miles on the rebuilt engine. "What did you do to this transmission? This is frickin amazing how great it shifts. It is like butter". LOL Glad she is happy.
