looking for a 2nd muscle cruiser -- what to by, what to buy ?

Love the M109 so much I may trade my Ducati 748 on either a '06 Yamaha Road-Star Midnight Warrior or a '18 Indian Scout.

I like the Scout a lot, but its more than twice the price of the Warrior. After trade in allowance the Warrior becomes by far a better option from a cost perspective.

Off tomorrow to the Stealership to have a look see.

Went there last week and looked at a '02 Harley VROD, but, as nice as it was, it seemed very narrow and no where as comfy as my M109 so I passed on it.

Dont really NEED another bike, but just can help myself. Its easier to justify when you get rid of one to buy another.

I might be a little partial, but have you considered the second generation Yamaha Vmax (2009-2020)? If you are looking for the ultimate muscle bike to go with the M109, that would be it. The bike is in a more relaxed riding position than a sport bike (more like a sport tourer), and has more power than most bikes that you will come in contact with. Heck, it will have more power than even a lot of cars in a given parking lot (197 hp). The engine and rest of the drive train is pretty much bullet proof and is able to go from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. From a launch, you will be able to make fun of 99% of the bikes out there, up to around 135 mph. While at the same time, it is very comfortable. The only down side is the smallish gas tank. The bike only holds 4 gallons and that equates to a gas stop every 80-100 miles.

I was going to suggest either the VMax or Ducati Diavel, the Duc might be a little pricey though. I've been looking at the Scout Bobbers, my wife wants to move from sport/naked bikes to a cruiser and the Scout Bobber fits the bill.

I did go see the other 2 today, however I wasn't impressed at all with the Indian Scout (too narrow and small , like the VROD), and the Warrior wasn't as nice as my M109, so I passed

The search continues, ill look at a VMAX or 2 and see how I like them. Very cool to look at thats for sure.

The Yamaha MT01 is another one thats on my list to acquire, not a cruiser per say although it does have a variant of the Warrior engine in it

Have you thought of an older Rocket? The Vmax, the Duck, the Rocket, and the 9 are the most powerful. The new Rocket is a beast but costs a small fortune.

To be 100% honest, I'd never even heard of it until your post and had to google it. Presume you mean the Triumph, Interesting bike, must be rare, I have never seen one here in Canada although I do see them on Kijiji. (our Craigslist).

I hon estly thing the V-max and Rockett are some of the ugliest bikes on the market!! With that being said I want them, partially because of that but mostly because they are ugly because they are function over form. Every mod for every engine only amplifies what's already there so these two bikes have a lot of potential. I have always wanted to boost these two bikes!

If you like the Indian Scout, would you consider the Victory Octane? I went to go see one for my brother a while back. Nowhere near the Vmax, but it has decent power and isn't super heavy. And looks good. I like the 9 better, but wouldn't mind having both if I could.

Im actually picking up an Aprilia RSV Factory on Thursday so that will even out the numbers until the Ducati sells, then ill have to get the other muscle cruiser

The Rocket isnt a pretty bike, it actually looks better from the left side than the right, from the right the tank is too tall. But 2300cc of bike would be cool as hell.

Im also liking the newer Valkyrie bikes

problem now is the more I look the more the cost of what I like goes up. Ill have to sell a few more bikes off to fund it.

Ive set my limit at 10 Bikes or less (I was at 18 ) The Beta 300RR is half owned with my son so it doesnt really count. Now im retired its getting harder to justify having so many bikes laying around the showroom that I dont ride in any given year.

I didnt like the Scout when I finally saw it and sat on it, way too skinny and small (felt the same as the VROD). but I do like some of the Victory bikes, ill have to see whats available

I did like the big Indian Chief at the used dealership, it just felt right. I hadn't thought about a big touring style bike, but, never say never

My next bike will be a used new style Rocket 3. The old one is more of a tractor but it is still quick. Not sure I would say it's ugly just different and no frills. Used they are pretty affordable. The new one looks really nice to me but too much for me to pay for a bike.

I may resume that search, I almost bought one last year but after a 4 hour drive, one way, I found that I'd been fed a pile of lies on the condition of the bike so I got back in my truck and hauled my trailer another 4 hours home.

I would consider also the Triumph Thunderbird Storm - it's not sporty like the M109R, but it's still a 1700 cc engine with 100 HP and plenty of torque.

It comes with a 200 rear wheel, so definitely it must be nimbler than the M109R in twisties.
If I did not have the M109R, I would seriously consider one of this .

I have owned 4 different M109's, and lots of other bikes (16 over the past 14 years). And yes, I am not a fan of the V-Max when it comes to looks. But I have to confess that this is the most capable bike that I have ever owned for my particular style of riding. It is a great bike for just cruising (like my M109's), can carve the corners when needed (like my ZZR600's), and is awesome in straight line power (like my ZX14). It is not the tops in either of the 3 categories that I listed, but it does all 3 in stellar fashion. If I cannot have all 3 bikes back again, this is the one that does them all pretty darn well.

My choice for a muscle cruiser (hot rod) would be the Rocket III. A monster engine. I'd have one now if they would dicker on the price.

Straycat, have you considered the option of purchasing a second M109R, and modifying it differently than the one you currently have, in order to make both 9s uniquely different? I know from experience that no two M109Rs perform the exact same way, or at the exact same level, even if all the mods/upgrades are the same.

Hey Judah, yea, it has crossed my mind, especially because nothing else seems to measure up. By that I mean nothing feels big or substantial enough after sitting on /riding an M109R.

If I found one cheap enough, id consider modding it.

My oldest son bought the Suzuki GXS S1000 new in 2019. It came in a naked version and windscreen/fairing version...he got the naked version (new in 2017 or 2018 for around 8000)...It is considered by the insurance companies as a STANDARD bike rather than a SPORT which realeeeee helped with the insurance. I've borrowed it (I'm an old 6'2" fart) a number of occasions and found it easy on the knees and back. It uses an earlier generation GXSR 1000 motor and that was rebuilt/retuned with MID RANGE in mind. It might be an option...PEACE RIDE SAFE

I love the looks of the Yamaha Raider S, it reminds me of a Harley Deuce. There’s a video on YouTube where they put one up against an m109r and they were nearly equal in power.

The only quibble I have is the semi-cheesy factory paint

I'd recommend looking at the Triumph Bonneville Bobber. I had a look at one (Blackfoot) with a buddy and was impressed. The "Black" model has cruse control and a couple of other cool options.
