    Default Air Cleaner Assembly Help

Dropped my 2018 BOSS M109r. Needed a new left side assembly. Buddy gave me one from his 06. Intake holes are different sizes and the tube from the newer part won't fit in the older part, but he says I don't need the tube. He says I can install the older one without the tube as long as the filter is inside. True? Bad idea?

WHen I was married and my wife rode an M50, I did remove the tube intentionally. It's there more to make the intake quieter. The 06 models had the big hole intakes. I believe they changed them to the small holes in 07 or 08. Not sure why, maybe make them a tad more quiet during the EPA noise emission test. The bike is in an enclosed room, no other source of noise. And there, it has to meet the EPA noise requirements. Smaller hole, less noise, less power.

I'd run that large hole filter housing on the left side without the tube, no problemo. They're both connected together at the airbox in any event, won't make one cylinder run better than the other.

Actually, thinking about it for a bit here, the 06 didn't have those tubes on the inside at all. Just the bare hole. They must've added those when they made the hole smaller. Likely trying to meet more strenuous noise emission requirements in Europe. Because when I removed my stock intake to go after market, I found no tubes on the inside. Just the hole.
