    Default Helmet Lock Missing

I went to a shopping center today and when I parked my bike I went to secure my helmet in the helmet lock but just couldn't seem to find it. I'm pretty sure it's meant to be just above the rear wheel on the left hand side. Do these locks ever just fall off? It was most bazzare:

I have only heard it happening a couple of times since 2006.

I went to lock my helmet last year and it was crooked. I pulled on it to realign into normal position thinking maybe bolt holding bit came loose and it pulled right off. I got one of these and it's much nicer placement especially with bags the factory location is useless.

Factory location kind of sucks. Too close to the bike for most helmet D-rings. I keep one of those t-bar type goodies in my Smuggler. You slip it through the D-rings and it has a hole on the other end to slip onto the helmet lock. Works perfect.
