Default How to mount front plate

Today I was stopped by a cop and he told me to mount a registration plate on the front of the bike. I have seen someone mount one to the same bolts that hold the front fender to the fork. I was wondering if there are other solutions. The plate is small, about 2.5 by 6.5 inches. Thanks in advance for the advice.

    The bike is a 2014 M109R BOSS

    WOW! Sounds kind of 1984ish!

Motorcycles and front license plates never get along. Sorry to hear this. 2.5 X 6.5 isn't much smaller than my standard Oklahoma license plate.

I had to read this thread just to see what the heck you were talking about - a *front* plate, I thought?! Whaat?

I'm wondering if you would have more luck posting in the regional forums? I didn't even know there were places which required a front plate. Dude, that's a bit of a drag. Having said that, I used my front reflector mounts to hold accessory lamps - not sure one small screw would be enough for a large licence plate, but maybe stand-offs engineered into 2 of the fender mounting bolts would be an idea?

    Or maybe something like this:

I guess, if you put one on each side, you'd have windshield lowers already built in. YUCK!

Don't they still require front plates in England? The kind you used to see mounted on the front fender vertically, in line with the bike? FUGLY as sin! Big enough to act like a sail in crosswinds. EEK!

Ah, I see it now in the picture above. Exactly. Jib sail on a motorcycle. Crosswinds anyone? Got yer crosswinds here.

We've not needed front lates for decades in England. They are a silly idea

Does it have to be mounted up front?

Thank you for the replies. I already have a plate at the back, they are asking me to install one on the front.

well does it need to face forward? Can it be side mount? What are the laws there? Hard to give advice without all the details.

The cop said that side mount on the fork facing forwards was fine. I guess I can just use the method he described. Thanks all.

You could mount it on the front fork piece that holds the reflector

Thanks for the suggestion. I was actually thinking to get aux lights on those some day, but till that time it is also an option.

I have a Suzuki windshield and would mount the plate at the bottom of the windshield. Check photo below.

Hahahah! But then I couldn't ride any other bike. I think I will mount the plate to the crash bar.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a fairing though, so it won't work. I do have the Vstream shield, but have lost the brackets. Is there any way to buy only the brackets?
