    Exclamation Rolling Thunder 2019

I also posted this thread in the event section. I’m posting this as this is a must event for any biker. Kind of like seeing pictures of the Grand Canyon vs seeing it in person. If you have been there you know what I mean.

If you have never gone make your plans, as 2019 is the last year of Rolling Thunder. It is AMAZING to attend. They say that it is the world largest bike gathering. And is a MUST event for every biker.

I wonder what the bad blood is all about? You would think the military would be thrilled to have all those riders raising awareness and probably advancing recruitment - and paying THEM for it?!

Maybe they are seeing it more like a giant POW/MIA sort of protest march and *don't* like advertising that sometimes their members don't come home?

    Perspective.

Looking at options to make plans to attend. Hopefully the Pentagon peeps don't go all wet blanket again like that article reported.

Personally, I think it is BS that they are giving up. The event organizers have lost focus of what the event is about, how it was started and basically the entire reason they have done it all of these years in DC. Keeping Rolling Thunder in DC, finding a way to make it work with the police, pentagon, etc is too difficult?!?! Are you kidding me?!?! These are the same people that are asking for support and donations to bring home those 85,000 POW / MIA soldiers. If negotiations with DC police and the pentagon are too difficult, how are they ever going to bring home those troops? The entire reason the ride is held in DC is to raise awareness to the federal government to bring our troops or their remains home so they can be laid to rest. How much attention do you think a small group ride in each state is going to get in comparison to close to a million bikes riding thru DC?

They are making a huge mistake if you ask me!

I live maybe 15 min from interstate 81 which is the main drag from which you take to get to 66 that takes you straight into DC. Every year when they do the run local chapters stand on bridges and overpasses waving Old Glory and the riders are more often than not escorted by the police. It’s a shame to see it come to an end due to “politics”. The local media usually covers it so while they may have only gotten “a few seconds of press” in DC it is still drawing attention to the facts in a way that a smaller gathering would not. I hate traffic but I might just find myself riding up there next year...
