Ok so the wife and I will be at a Spyder event in Houma, LA the first week of April. Since we have never been to New Orleans and being so close we figured we would spend a day seeing the town. It will be during the day and returning to Houma in the afternoon.

So looking for places to see/go while we are there for the day. Places to eat??? What are some recommendations?

LOL......Its not as big an event as you would think.

Have a coffe and beignet at Cafe Du Monde is a must.

Some adult beverages at various bars on bourbon street and around the french quarter.

Walk along the top of the levee and check out the Mississippi River.

There are some nice architectural sights like old buildings and churches to see.

Other than that you have your typical tourist trap attractions surrounded by "****-Hole" Urban City.
(Stick to the well traveled areas for out of towner's, there are or were some pretty sketchy areas as is the case with all big city)

You will have a good time though, I always did. :D ......although I do seem to remember getting a parking ticket almost every time we went to the Big Easy.

I have not been to N.O. since before Katrina but I used to live just a couple hours from there growing up.

Yep, thats the ticket.

Beignet is French for Deep Fried Pastry. (or something like that, been over 30 years since I have used any french)

The ones at Cafe Du Monde in the french quarter will be squarish looking donuts with powdered sugar.....very good when they are hot.

Cafe Du Monde used to be open very late so we could be found there having coffee and beignets after a night of partying.

Shane, there are three places that you MUST eat at.
1. Jacques Imosand for the Shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake.

2.
Cafe du Monde for Beignets, there is a window behind the place that you can watch them make them also.

3. Felix's Restaurant and Oyster Bar and have the Jambalaya and grilled oysters.

We are looking at the weather and watching. We are suppose to leave this Tues for Shreveport and overnight at the casino. Then head down to Houma this Wed. Right now it doesnt look good but i know the weather this time of year changes ever 5 min. We are hoping to make it. So now its a hurry up and wait game.

I've spent a lot of time there over the years. Fresh crawdads may be available if you like um. I have tried a lot of restaurants and cant remember any that were terrible however I always go to Dragos (in the Hilton I think) and order at least two dozen oysters bruchetta. That is one of my favorites.
