Thanks. To be honest im not to technically sound on motorcycles yet. My M109 has that stupid oil drip on the left side that already has ruined 2 good work pants. It has a custom exhaust on it. It's 2 7" pipes going into one huge single pipe. Would like to get a heat shield. I mostly drive it to Tampa from Pinellas al lweek then go on trips for what would you guys recommend. And is 2nd gear a really that bad?

Oil puke is just from over filling it on the oil change. There is a drain on the bottom of the stock air intakes. You will ultimately need to remove the air intakes and clean the oil out of them. Might need to replace the air filters as well if they have soaked up oil. I would just do an oil change on it, making sure to only put the proper amount back in.

As far as heat shields go, post up a pic of what you have. We can probably help you identify which exhaust you have so you know what to look for. Or you could just pick out a new exhaust. Make your 9 "yours"!

Welcome! And don't worry about the oil puke, it happens and is an easy enough fix. The guys here are really knowledgable and very helpful. Now lets see that exhaust.

That's a great exhaust. You might want to consider shortening it. The guys will direct you or you can do a search.

Just wondering, how did you burn your leg? You aren't stupid enough to ride in shorts, are you?

Welcome to the club! Its always great seeing Florida people logging in or joining.

I understand the hesitation of wanting to work on the 109 but get you a copy of the shop manual and dive in...... I like working on my own stuff, unless it involves internal engine/transmission junk or has a kick arse warranty...

Could say the same for everyone that does not wear a full face helmet, but most don't.
Ever seen what a chin looks like from hitting the asphalt because you only had on a turtle shell or 3/4 helmet.....its not pretty. (shatters like glass)

But to each his own, I sometimes ride with no helmet myself if the wife is not riding with me.
(Wear it all the time when riding with her, so I can talk with her over intercom.)

    Its hot in Florida...Damn Hot.
I almost never wear long pants while home.

I understand what you are saying and you are not wrong.....but again, to each his own.

    Party on.

Like you said to each his own, I lived in Florida for 46 years and always wore long pants and a full face helmet. I did not wear a protective jacket until I moved to Carolina. GO Buccaneers!!

I live in south/central Florida and at first started riding in shorts , until a friend of mine showed me a burn mark on his leg from riding in shorts ... that , frankly , stopped me cold and since then , long jeans all the way .
Inside the city , I wear my half face Bell Pit Boss helmet . For the highway I wear a full face helmet .
