How is it working? I am doing this over the weekend. Not sure if I want to run to the battery or a switch. Thoughts?\r\n

I just went straight to the battery, and I quote from the Healtech manual:
    \n
\n"If you can\'t do the splice, connect the Red wire directly to the battery positive terminal (in this case, disconnect the wire if you don\'t intend to ride the bike for over 4 weeks, otherwise, you may need to charge the battery)."
    \n
\nThe only time I won\'t ride my bike for that long is when it\'s put up for the winter, and then it\'s connected to a battery tender \r\n

I was looking at the ECM wiring. Is it clear which side of the harness to hook up to the green and black wire? The harness appears to have a black side and a gray side on the ECM. Does this sound right?\r\n

\r\n This is the wire you want to cut and how mine looked when finished... soldering the wire and using some heat shrink is really the best way to go but I couldn\'t find my soldering iron and will just go back and do that some other day.

\r\n Nice post and thanks for doing this. It helped me install the XTRE that I was fussing at earlier in the weekend. XTRE makes the bike much more smooth and I do notice that I can handle it better because it is more predictable in the turns. May have lost a little power, but I\'ll take the smooth ride.\r\n

    Two things.
    \n
\n1. I\'m not an engineer or a mechanic. But tricking the bike into thinking it is in 4th gear has to either reduce power in 1-3rd or if it does give more power, has to be hard on the transmission. Given the fact that it feels so smooth and less torque I am guessing it reduces some of the power in 1-3rd to smooth things out.
    \n
\n2. Maybe it\'s just perception on my part then because it doesn\'t feel so rough and is smooth. Maybe there is more power but it is perceived less because of the smooth ride. Either way, I am ok with whatever it is. Plus I added the Cobra Pro and an exhaust. So all that combined has really changed the dynamics of the bike. With only have 500 miles or riding time on the 9, it could be that I just don\'t have enough run time to perceive the differences too.
    \n
\nThe XTRE is definitively working I can tell you that. Soft, smooth, and I can handle corners better because I don\'t feel all the bucking while engaging the throttle.\r\n

Soft, smooth, and I can handle corners better because I don\'t feel all the bucking while engaging the throttle.
    \r\n \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
The timing is advanced, effectively allowing the engine to run at full power which is why they map your bike to always think it\'s in 4th gear where you have 100% throttle and the full available rev\'s of 7,400 rpm\'s
    \n
\nYou won\'t gain much in the way of power, but you certainly aren\'t losing any power by adding a TRE/XTRE\r\n

\r\n Just finished the install. Haven\'t ridden the bike yet but did fire it up and it does indeed say 4 on the gear indicator for a few seconds when you turn the key on then it switches to 1 so I guess it is working. Here are a couple pics I took during the install.\r\n

\r\n Got the time and cooperating weather to install the XTRE today. The write-up was much better than the included instructions. Did the checks as per the instructions and it\'s set for the 4th gear setting. Started it on the lift and verified operation, buttoned it back up and took a spin around the pond. Throttle response is spot on now. Now will have a real problem not running over the Harleys on group rides!\r\n

\r\n ok everyone so i just installed my xtre and if i put the bike in first gear, with the kickstand up, and the switch on run; the bike does say 4th for a few seconds and then back to 1st but my question is do i have to put it in 4th gear to set the map for it or does it already come installed that way and that\'s why when you test it in 1st it shows 4th? And if thats the case then from now on do I have to start the bike in 1st or since its installed is it automatically stored and set? Also is the light on the xtre suppose to blink for a second and then remain off or is it suppose to remain on the whole time?
\nIf the bike is in neutral with the kickstand down then the light remains on and if the ignition is on and the kickstand up, but the switch in the off position the light remains on so is that right?
\nsorry for all the questions just wondering if mine is correct or not?
\nThanks to all those who help and offer feedback in advance lol!!\r\n

ok everyone so i just installed my xtre and if i put the bike in first gear, with the kickstand up, and the switch on run; the bike does say 4th for a few seconds and then back to 1st but my question is do i have to put it in 4th gear to set the map for it or does it already come installed that way and that\'s why when you test it in 1st it shows 4th? And if thats the case then from now on do I have to start the bike in 1st or since its installed is it automatically stored and set? Also is the light on the xtre suppose to blink for a second and then remain off or is it suppose to remain on the whole time?
\nIf the bike is in neutral with the kickstand down then the light remains on and if the ignition is on and the kickstand up, but the switch in the off position the light remains on so is that right?
\nsorry for all the questions just wondering if mine is correct or not?
\nThanks to all those who help and offer feedback in advance lol!!

    \r\n
It\'s good. They show 4th when you first start it to show that\'s the gear it\'s set to emulate. You can set them to emulate other gears, but ours needs 4th. You can start it in any gear you want, it doesn\'t matter.
    \n
\nAll this is doing is telling the ECU that you\'re in 4th all the time, so it uses the timing profile for 4th gear. Other than that the bike doesn\'t know it\'s on there.\r\n

\r\n Perfect write-up. I started on the right side, mounting the XTRE box itself, then ran the wires to the left side, and cut them to length before splicing. Other than that, followed your instructions perfectly. I\'ve only had the 9 for two-weeks now, but I immediately noticed the lack of \'jerkiness\' in 1st gear.
    \n
\nBy the way, yesterday I also installed a Speedo Healer, a BackOff brake modulator, a Stebel horn, a gorilla alarm, and did the debeaver mod. Whew!\r\n

\r\n Great how to instructions. I did find that if you use channel locks and find the locking tab on the triangle connector. Squeeze it and slowly pry the plug apart with a small screw driver. It comes right off. No busted scraped knuckle and only about 30 sec. The hardest part was figuring out how to get the plastics off without them breaking.
    \n
\nThanks for a great how to.
\nP.S. I did get that FI light too.

\r\n I just ordered mine from MeanCycles. They have the best price that I could find. I plan to follow this how to when I install mine. I will also add a nice bright 6 inch wide LED under my headlight while I\'m at it. I guess I should also do the pair valve mod at that time. The popping I get is not to bad. but I might as well do it while I have the tank off.\r\n

Mate - you don\'t need to take the tank off to do the x-tre mod..... but I hear that the pair valve mod is recommended if necessary ....the 6 inch LED under the headlight will ROCK\r\n

\nhow do you attach the xtre power cord with the 12v socket? Cut the covering of 12 v wire and attach/twist the xtre cord with it, and put a tape on it? Sorry I am totally new to it.\r\n

\nhow do you attach the xtre power cord with the 12v socket? Cut the covering of 12 v wire and attach/twist the xtre cord with it, and put a tape on it? Sorry I am totally new to it.

\r\n OK, so I connected directly to the battery for now. Turned the 9 on and rode for a short bit. The bike runs smooth, no doubt, but the gear indicator does not display any gear number. It\'s just a dash sign. What did I do wrong?\r\n

\r\n Did you connect it to the ECU wire? If so, did you connect it to the correct white plugs? There are 2 connections side by side that it will plug into. If you use the wrong one it will not work correctly. Here is a link to the instructions one Healtech\'s website if you need them.

\nIn case of problems, please check the followings in this order:
\n 1. Make sure the ECM connector is connected and seated properly.
\n 2. Make sure the side stand is UP, engine stop switch is in RUN position and
\n ignition is ON when you test the gear indicator function.
\n 3. Make sure you did not disconnect anything else, or bent a hose accidentally.
\n 4. Check the 4p and 3p connectors. Make sure the connectors are locked and
\n none of the pins have been pushed out of position.
\n Select neutral, and turn ignition ON. The green neutral indicator should
\n work normally. Otherwise, there is a loose connection in the 3p plugs.
\n 5. Turn ignition off and wait a few seconds. Have the side stand still UP and
    \n
the stop switch in RUN position. Turn ignition ON while you watch the XTRE
    \nstatus LED.
\n- If the LED does not respond at all, redo the splice at the Red wire tap
\nconnector, or connect the Red wire to the battery positive terminal.
\n- If the LED blinks once when ignition is turned on then remains On, check
\nthe connection of the X-TRE Black/Green wire, and make sure it is
\n connected to the B/G wire at the ECM connector side.
    \n
    - If the LED blinks once when ignition is turned on then remains Off, and
\n the gear indicator still does not function, check the connection of the
    \n
Black/White wire, and make sure it is connected to the B/G wire at the
    \n main wiring harness side.
\n 6. If the gear indicator works but shows one gear only, check the connections
\n at the 3p plugs, and make sure the sensor wires are Blue, Pink and
\n Black/White. Otherwise, you got the wrong connector.
\n If the problem persists, please contact us for advice and describe the situation
    \n in detail.

    OK all set and done.
\nThe only question is, after step 2.1 where I turned on the ignition and saw \'4\' appearing for a second or two and then changing to 1, I just pushed up the gear a few times, I saw the gear indicator displaying 6 for a couple of seconds. How does that sound?\r\n

    OK all set and done.
\nThe only question is, after step 2.1 where I turned on the ignition and saw \'4\' appearing for a second or two and then changing to 1, I just pushed up the gear a few times, I saw the gear indicator displaying 6 for a couple of seconds. How does that sound?
    \r\n \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n

    \n2.2. Selecting TRE mode
    \n
    - Put your gearbox in 4th, 5th or 6th gear, depending on which mapping you’d
\n like to set as per the table below:
    \n B-King, DL1000 and all Cruiser mode 4 M109r
    \n
    \n
    GSX-R1000 (see note), Hayabusa 5
    \n
    \n ALL other models 6
    \n
    - Have the ignition key in OFF position, stop switch in RUN position, and side
\n stand UP, then wait at least 5 seconds
    \n
    - Turn ignition ON
\n- The gear indicator will show the new map (4, 5 or 6) for a few seconds,
\n then it will blink once. The setting is stored, and the gear indicator will
    \n work normally.

\r\n Default ECU instead of X-Tre\r\n

    \r\n \r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n
    \r\n
    \r\n
\r\n I am still not sure about installing my X-Tre. My bike is still under warranty (MY2016) and I don\'t want to void it.
    \n
\nI have read a few threads on ECU but I can\'t find a clear answer.
    \n
\nDoes anyone know if I can do a similar thing as the X-Tre mod by using the http://www.woolichracing.com/ software?
    \n
\nIf I just pay up now, it may avoid cutting wires and also allow me to adjust later when I mod exhaust and air filters.
    \n
\nI don\'t plan on major engine/performance mods, just want it to run well.\r\n

Yes, ECU flashing will do that. But I think that flashing ECU could void warranty as well.
    \n
\nYes it is reversible to the original state, but what is easier and faster in case you need
    \n
\n the warranty repair, removing the EXTRE or sending ECU back to Woolichracing?\r\n

\r\n When I recently purchased my M109R second hand it had a range of cosmetic additions, but I could not believe that this mod had not been installed.
    \n
    \nThanks for the instructions wiskeythrottle505.
    \n
\nI can now ride the streets of Sydney normally without wondering if it\'s going to lurch me into the curb or car in front. A totally different ride and no doubt somewhere towards as it was designed to perform prior to EPA rulings.
    \n
\nThe big question now is where do I put the supplied stickers?

    \r\n Late to the party
\nInstalled mine today, Easy Peasy with this thread as backup
