Warning: The kit I got came with bolts for the rod mount to the head that only went in a couple threads with the spacer in place. I highly recommend getting longer bolts to go in more threads. When I was messing around trying to align where each spike was pointing I ripped the couple outer threads off one.

If I remember right the bolt that came with mine was 35 long so I bought a couple 40s and 45s. The 45s worked so no I have a tonne of threads holding it on. Luckily I only stripped a couple so no real harm done.

Does anyone have any pics of what they did for the 2 tiny screws mounting the spike?

I run with these intakes, and one is lower than the other. I figured what the hell, one can only see one side of the bike at a time. I consider it an non issue, with no preformance issuses. And the look great

So what's the consensus on the spike vs. the open filter? Is the spike with the smaller filter significantly more restrictive than the open K&N? Is it worth forking out the exta $$ for the filters if I already have the spike setup?

Which is the preferred filter for looks and/or surface area? SP3459 or RC3680

I have Only had the spikes on my bike and it's a love / hate thing. Performance wise who knows. The bike is a monster no matter what and can't tell a difference between these and my old Holly IntAkes . My friends love the spikes but a times I think they are too much, and might buy so e [email protected] -air filter cones to fit on them. Can't give u a performance opinion on the two yet, good luck

The bigger the filter area the better IMHO.But earlier in this thread on another subject, those with OEM crash bars cannot use the RC3680 on the right side unless you make up a new baking plate.I studied the way the OEM crash bars are mounted and could not come with a pleasing mod that would look Good.So I have ordered two Shorter K&N RC9080 Filters.I will taKe Pics soon and post for those interested.

You can fit the [email protected] filters on the tube of the spike intakes. I lost the link but very cheap to switch back and fourth. Beats buying the Tornado intakes for &700 plus

Both my intake back plates made by ( Damguy ) you can fit crash bars. Both my intAkes fit dead even both up and down and left to right. It's the only way in my eyes. Off center would drive me nuts!!!

Just a question because I have never seen anybody mention it. Is it a pia when its time to change the spark plugs? Looks like you would have to remove the spikes to get the front jug covers off.

Keith I am not sure. I have never changed my spark plugs. The whole intake set up consists of two Allen bolts, and u disconnect the breather tube on the back and pop out the guide plug. Maybe a minute and a half to fully drop each side, very simple

So no it wouldn't be difficult, you would never need to take off the spike portion, it all can come off as one piece if you need it too

The filter has a rubber mounting collar that is flexiable enough to remove and reinstall for cleaning when needed, even with the crash bars on.

    Default Spike intake

Just ordered my spike from Ebay but will use that RC9080 K&N filter.I think it looks very aggressive. Running FI2000 with V&H Propipe.

I bought my spike intakes like that on ebay, and the parts you are looking for came with the kit. Those are the gaskets

Yeah, mine came with them as well I'm wondering if I can buy them separately. I would like to replace one of them if possible.
