Default Local rider goes down - wear your helmet

Reading this article and looking at the photos, it looks like this guy would have walked away if he had his helmet on. Instead, there is a family missing a loved one now. I love the feel of riding without a helmet, but it just isn't worth it:

In my opinion a helmet is a must.... I have seen too many not walk away from it. It really me off to no end with the cagers not paying attention.

Ride it like you stole it, unless the wife is riding along!

Yeah, really not sure in this case if it was the driver of the car or the rider that was at fault. The different descriptions I have seen seem to indicate that the rider had some part in it, they have not yet cited the driver. Either way, this guy should have been able to walk away from this if he had his helmet on. It looks like a fairly low impact wreck.

    And here's yet another one:

This one is a bit of a different situation. The story seems to blame the bikes when it is the riders to blame. That's like blaming a car for letting a drunk driver behind the wheel. Still a sad situation for the family.

I saw that bullet bike story on KSL and it really ticked me off. Take a look at what they show as license requirements for riding a motorcycle. They have absolutely zero clue what you have to do to get a motorcycle license (it takes about 5 minutes on the web to find out, if you're slow, or a single call to the DMV).

The problem with the media is the more shock the better. In this case it's easier to blame the bike and downplay the fact that this was a brand new rider who didn't even have a motorcycle endorsement.

Don't get me wrong, I feel for the family and I never want to see another rider go down, I just get totally ticked off at the media over garbage journalism like this.

Oh, and I believe in lids.

Yeah, usually when you see biased and unresearched articles like that on KSL it is by Debbie Dujanovik, their "investigative" reporter. Her reports are always really slanted. This one wasn't from her, however.

We have had way too many riders go down in the SL area lately. Be safe out there. Saw that there was also a scooter rider killed the other day.
