Default Anybody remember that one guy who used to hang out around here?

Hi all. A PM from Mtnsnow reminded me I've been neglecting my duty to post inane comments to the M109riders board. I'll try to do better Mike, starting right now.

Work and family have just been mind blowingly busy. The first and last couple of months of every year are just slammed at work and it was a wild holiday break too (I'm glad it's over).

In answer to the thread about Christmas loot. I got one of those M109 jackets that the first year guys scored for free. I bought it, but the wife wouldn't let me open it until Christmas. I did manage to give it a break in on a New Years Day ride. Pretty nice. Oh, and my parents bought me some rain gear, which is pretty funny because my mom's sure I'm going to kill myself on the bike so I'm not sure why she's encouraging me to ride in the rain.

I hope y'all had a great holiday (sounds like you did, even with a scare Joe and Jenn) and the New Year is treating you better than the Giants defense treated the Patriots tonight. Talk about a shocker (I'm trying to figure out how all of New England's offensive line missed the bus cuz I'm pretty sure they didn't make the game).

    Cheers,

    Jay

Thanks for stopping by Jay! Glad to hear things are looking very good for you work wise so congrats there!

Hope the snow (still can't believe I want spring/summer like I never have before) goes away soon as I'm just itching to go riding the 9!

I've had mine for about 9.5 months now. Still have ridden it enough to wear off the newness. C'mon snow, just melt.

Fatty: I like the WRX in the pic. However; the snow in your picture is depressing. I think I have Weather affected Depression or something. I prefer to call it "I wanna ride the 9 -itus".

Thanks brim. it's my other baby. I have to have something to get me around in the winter, and 350 HP/torque + all wheel drive = good times in the snow. I went down to payson last night and the drive back was like a winter rally cross stage. Getting sideways on every corner I took makes not riding the 9 a little easier to bear.

I'm with you Brim. It's just not as much fun playing in the snow with my Jeep with the 9 sitting at home in the garage. It's still fun, just not as much. (And I don't think my Cherokee has a prayer against Fatty's WRX in a snow rally. Well, at least until we hit the really deep stuff).

Good to hear from you Jay! Glad to know you're still plugin along. Look forward to getting together soon! I can't wait for the warm weather also. Although, it's suppoosed to be pretty nice this weekend. I'll probably have to take out the beast

My9: glad to hear there is another crazy on this site. I am also probably going to ride the 9 this weekend. I will be taking the eventful cruise to the Honda / Suzuki of Salt Lake dealership. I am going to admit my baby into the Plastic Surgery center there.

Gonna have the pipes augmented with the Big Shots, a PCIII implanted, AND while she is in there and all torn apart, I am going to have them tear the clutch apart and loctite the Tubular Nut. I may also have them do a cable lift on the clutch so as to not run right under the motor mount.

It is gonna be spendy for sure, but I don't want to lose my clutch in rush hour traffic.

Sounds good Brim! Mine isn't shifting right at the moment as I found out 2 weeks ago. (hard shifting, almost impossible to shift from 1st to 2nd). So if I can't figure it out after making some adjustions that the fellow 9ers on this board suggest, I just might have to take it to Honda/Suzuki myself. Also Brim, how do you like the bungee knobs?

Bungie Knobs are good! Thanks man. I did put those on.

Yeah, I am hoping that if I pay to have them loctite the tubular nut, I can ask them to inspect the shifting fork, etc.... We'll see how it goes. I acutally know the previous owner who is now the store manager. He isn't the nicest guy in the world, but he may help me out if it is possible. I'll let you know how it goes.

MntSnow: Not sure I fully understand the need for the aftermarket cables you bought. Are they stainless braided for looks and/or stronger so they don't break? Were you having problems with shifting?

    Brim,

My main reason for the aftermarket SS cables are as follows
    1. Longer length since I have 2" risers on my bars and didnt like how my throttle cables would bind on a full lock turn.
    2. Bling factor
    3. Smoother clutch pull and as a possible side benefit of not having the cable come apart that some have had happen at the nipple (cable pulling out of the barrel).

Thanks Brett. It is Brett right? Dang, I've been off the board so long I've forgotten who has what handle.

I'm with you. Forecast is 42 tomorrow. That's downright warm compared to the other rides I've taken this winter (16 degrees on New Years is my personal best, or worst, depending on how you look at it). Time for the redhead to come down off the lift.

I'll have to see though. The plows didn't do a very good job around my neighborhood. There's a nice sheet of ice for about a block and a half. The bare patches started to show through today though so I think I'll have a chance by afternoon. It'll be a crying shame if it's warm enough to ride and I can see dry pavement from my front porch, but I ain't trying my luck on ice, even for a block. I do have a big bucket of ice melt in the garage though.

Hope the shifting problem isn't enough to keep you from enjoying the day. If you happen to head south for our warmer Utah County climate gimme a holler.

MtnSnow - You planning on going back to stock (non-drilled) pipes or do you have some evil pipe mod in mind?

Personally, I think I'm gonna go back to stock when I can take some time to find a virgin set. I'm losing my hearing turning my music up loud enough to be heard. Decided I like my tunes better than the loud pipes. Guess I'm getting old and soft.

Yeah it's Brett. I have that problem too from time to time Depending on what time I'll get to ride (don't know exactly how the day's going to turn out yet) maybe we could hook up this afternoon. I'm thinking it'll be about 2 oclock for me.

Well, the new pipes and PCIII will have to wait another week. They can't get to my bike till next friday. I've decided to go to "The Edge" guys one more time. Reason is that they have a dyno that they said they would use to dial me in. I'm gonna have them stay on the efficiency side rather than power.

Anyway, if it gets a little warmer today, and you guys go for a ride, let me know. I may be willing to give it shot if the ice on my street finishes melting in the next couple hours.

Man that stinks you have to wait another week for the pipes but I'm sure it'll be worth it, at you're still able to ride! Maybe tomorrow I'll go for a ride if you and/or anybody's interested. It'll probably be around 2 again if I go. I only took it to the store today but it's running (shifting great) so I'm definitely going to try to go tomorrow for a longer one!

More pipe mods and it would be nice to have a stock set to put on when I will be doing long cross-country trips where more comfort will be wanted
