9 not starting after 70 days off - advice needed

Good day mates .

Came home from overseas after 70-ish days , recharged the battery over night , and tried to start it today . It is '06 , never had any problems before .
I got all the right noises , needles go where they should and back , bike in neutral , on kickstand , clutch lever pulled in , kill switch in running position , everything as usual . Press the starter button , and it tries , it is normally loud , but engine just does not fire up . Fuel is in the tank , everything sounds and looks normal , except that bike does not start . It is turning and turning , and sounds like almost 1 cylinder is going to start firing , but then nothing . I did not have time to check plugs , so that will be first ting in the morning , but they are new , changed in July , only 1500 miles on them . In past few years , I am always working on same rotation , 2-2 months on-off , and it would always start on a first kick . I have Gipro-atre since last year , no issues . No mods to exhaust or air side , no fuel remapping devices .

I would really appreciate your advice on this . Thanks .

70 days and the fuel might be done for (not able to fire, seen it before, a LOT). Might have to drain the tank and put in fresh fuel.

I'd try a additive then fill the tank the rest of the way with fresh gas and fire her up.

You could of had gas that was already old from the start before you parked it. It would be my first step.

I agree. You may just not be getting enough juice. Was the battery all the way dead when you put it on the charger?

I'm thinking it's not the gas or you would likely get something, but just running rough. Unless, of course, there is major water in the tank, or the likes. But otherwise, I just don't buy that it is going to go bad in two months. I've had gas in vehicles that have sat for years and start right up.

I don't think your plugs are the problem either. Although, it is likely something electrical--whether simply not enough juice from your battery, or another fuse or relay or something not getting spark to where it needs it at the right time.

Yeah, sure. In those old carbureted two-wheel abortions you probably rode. Kidding. But I'm betting it's not the fuel.

I agree with what most have said, first I would have the battery load tested, when they go totally dead, sometimes they will not come back even after charging them. (might have to replace the battery) I would also drain all gas and re-fill with new premium and see if that works! Good luck.

and thanks for all the advice . Still drinking coffee and getting ready to attack the problem . As stated before , this is my constant rotation for past 6 years , and it has never been an issue before , with fuel , battery , or bike just sleeping in the garage . Battery was not dead at all , I just hoop it up to tender as soon as I come home . It sounds strong . Now I am going to search fro load test figures and figure out how to drain the tank . Thanks again , will keep you posted .

So , tender says battery ready to use . Measured 13.7 V . When key turned on , drops to 12.4 . When start button hit , drops to 10.2 . After 2 unsuccessful attempts , battery reads 12.7 - drop of 1 V . Will try to jump it now with a car battery .

Ok , baby started up after connecting car battery , but not only because of that , some twist of throttle was needed , gentle and precise :-) After 2 minutes of running , battery voltage measured 14 V . I did not change the fuel or add anything . So my bike is running again , and I have no idea why , I am guessing all the parts just got stuck together , maybe fuel pump , no idea . Anyway , happy again , and thanks to all who came up with ideas , every visit here is a learning opportunity . Thank you .

The battery has to be good to start this bike its not about voltage its about cranking amps

When my battery was going bad it would start right up when cold, but get the engine warmed up, shut it down, let it set for a few minutes, try to start it, and nothing. Let it cool down and it would start right up again.

As suggested, take the battery to a shop/store that installs/sells batteries, and have it load tested. That will tell you if the battery is still strong enough and can maintain a charge after use. Most vehicles (bikes included) will not run if the battery voltage drops below a certain number. If you're dragging the voltage down past the limit during cranking it will not fire up and run.
