Default Anyone Using This Leather Up.com Helmet?

I've bought a few items from Leather Up.com and have been very pleased overall. Online shopping is tough as you can't try anything on, or even if something fits in general, check to see if it comfortable too. I find with this site though, that it is busy enough and if you read the many product reviews, the sizing will be confirmed by the reports and reviews of others. I've been looking at these helmets all summer and back in June/July were sold out. I realize that the helmet is cheap, and likely my brain (if I only had one . . and courage too!) is worth more than the lid, and yes . . I should by a Shoei . .etc. I have like, 10 helmets ranging from the expensive to a pot with the handle cut off. My wife freaks when a new helmet comes in the mail . . soooooo much fun and highly recommended.

Anyone using these flip back modulars? Hard to beat the price and love the feature that allows you to ride above 30 miles per hour without whiplash.

I think sumo has this one. I rode with him last weekend, and it was at least very similar. He had the shield down, so that's why it might be the same. Give him a shout. Another rider with us, peregrine, mentioned that he sent his back, but I didn't hear why. That's two guys here, but I bet you get a few more responses!

Yeah, I'm sure it's noisey as compared to other Modulars ( I have a Bell that I quite like) but I dig the features/dollar on this one. I'm thinking about buying a pair of them and setting them up with bluetooth for the odd time my wife rides with me. Might get her out more often if we could communicate while riding.

The bluetooth might be my next thing. Thread here about the Sena SMH10. Not so much for intercom, but music and phone and getting real nice reviews.

Who's counting! I'm on all day at work, so my nose gets a workout. I have a way to go to get to Bernie and a few others...check these numbers...5-6,000!

Not a bad price and a nice looking helmet. I have a modular helmet as well and like it. I would like to get a lighter modular helmet in the future with the pull down tinted visor like this one has.

Weight and noise are the big issues for me as well. I looked into Scorpion's modular and it was quite a bit heavier then their standard helmets. I'm assuming that is true of most manufacturers. Finding actual numbers to compare has proven to be difficult. I would like to know which are the lightest out there and then start comparing those for fit.

You know, I can't remember. It was reasonable though. Of course there is the broker fee of $29.00 via UPS. I just decided I'd make sure that what I ordered showed enough of a bargain to not worry about it. I ordered a lid and chaps about 4 years ago. I sold the lid and still where the chaps.

Thanks, I think I'll give them a call...BTW I have pretty much the exact helmet you are thinking of ordering, just a different brand, and I love it!

    Default Just got the helmet

So far so good. If ya get one order next size BIGGER LOL Glad i did, a XL1 would have been too small. I ordered a XL2. I really like the quick release chin strap. No more messing around getting it through the loops. I can do it with my gloves on now. Has a lil push button air vent right by the chin, for airflow over the lens. That will come in handy..........

Default How is the Fit and Finish?

Is it a decent helmet or is it less than decent? Let me know about wind noise if you can. Modulars with the shields down are louder than seamless full face helmets no doubt. I'll bet some are better than others though. How does the flip back feature work. Is it a good mechanism?

    Thanks Nemo.

    Thumbs up

Flat black will be HOT in the summer months. If too loud you could wear ear plugs and still hear well. As for getting one size larger remember you may want to wear a head wrap winter with it too.

I went with the gloss black, and it doesn't flip all the way back. Functions are a little tight, but will free up with time.M It is not a Shoei or one of the high dollar lids but I think I will like it. IF I get some ride time lol, will report on the wind noise.

Yup, I do wear those head socks when cold......... These lids do run a little small. Get the bigger...

Just went and looked at my HJC fullface helmet and it is XL. These helmets are way small. Order 2 sizes bigger......setting the 2 side by side, the HJC is bigger. Wonder why the sizing difference?

You can't really go by exterior size. Most helmet makers only use 2 or 3 shells, then make up the size differences with the padding. The better makers use at least 4 or 5 different shells. You can tell how many they have by looking at their replacement cheek pads and lining kits, if they show 2 they only have 2 shells, if they have 4 they have 4 shells, etc.

Old Bell helmets had only one shell, so it didn't matter which size you bought they all looked like large on the outside, because they were. The only good thing about it was you could change the size for better fit by just changing the padding. Years ago my wife and I bought matching Bell helmets, hers a small and mine a large. You couldn't tell the difference if you set them side by side. Hers just had thicker padding to make up the size difference.

Well went for a freeway ride tonight. This lid is a lot quieter than the HJC full face I have. Seems more padding around my ears on this new one. Fits pretty good. The view is a little more limited then the HJC. It will do. I have never got too high tech, looking for helmets LOL......

Quick shipping! I haven't had a chance to ride with the new the new helmet, but it appears to be much lighter than my other one. Not crazy on the cost black, but with my big head, it was the only option.
I'm going to ride today and I'll post my second impression later.

Nice helmet. The only problem I see is when fully flipped backwards, it transfers all the weight to the back, causing a little discomfort on my neck. My other helmet does not flip all way back and does not cause any discomfort.
At the end of the day, good quality for the price.

I'm saving my money to get one. I will tell you this: They run small, so measure your head and then get a 1 or 2 bigger size. I ordered a 2XL even though my head measures as requiring a 2XL and it was to snug. I gave that one to my wife. I'm going to order a 3XL one with the face shield and sun shade shield. Mine will set me back about $190. I love the way they look and the fact that you can flip up the whole front when it's hot and ur sitting at a stop light.
