    Default My baby wont start

    Hi Guys,

I have another dilemma You guys have helped me more times then i can count and i'm here again begging for any help you can offer. Here is my problem:

I just recently replaced the battery (because i killed the odyssey battery by leaving speakers on) with one suggested here and i cant remember the name but its yellow with 4 terminals, all the brake pads and both tires, 160/260 metz felt very nice for the one day of riding(about 100 miles) i got in before i parked the bike on Saturday in the front yard exposed to weather figuring i would ride it again very soon instead of putting it away. It was wet and drizzling all day on Sunday not bad though and slightly on Monday I went to start the bike up and go for a small ride somewhere on Monday night and it turned over but wouldn't start..when it wouldnt start the fi lights up in the odometer after turning it over for about 5 seconds. fuel pump did go speedo moved like normal. i did try giving it extra fuel while turning over and it would kick but breifly and rough then it would shut back off.

right now im charging the battery just in case and gonna try it again. i do have a power commander, holley mod intakes, sideburner exhust, tach is removed.

any help would be greatly appreciated

The first thing I would try is disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes then hook it back up and try it. Mine would crank up and would shut right back off. Square rounder told me to try this and it fixed it. Hope this helps.

Also if you have the holley mod intakes, they might be wet. But it should still fire.

This is the battery. You might want to take a meter to it also. That will give you a better picture as to what is happening.

yes that's the battery i just couldn't remember the name .. i will bring the meter home from work tomoroow to check that out a little better. I did disconnect and reconnect the battery's negative terminal and that didn't fix it...
its just weird cause it was running fine when i parked it, its driving me crazy... i do smell fuel a little when i give it extra gas it will fire but then shuts right off again.

Sounds like Electronics got wet from moisture. I had this happen when I washed it one time some water got into my fuel commander. Check all connections especially if you have anything aftermarket they are not as water proof as OEM.

I have seen where the power commander has gone bad and prevented the bike from starting. I would first check the power commander to make sure you are seeing power to it as that could be a problem.

Well 7 miles away she started running on one cylinder and the fi light came on i shut her off towed her home and now ripping it apart in the garage i think i am going to look at power commander connections . i think i used those horrible little clips when i installed it way back and i think they might be causing the problem. time to breakout the tools and the soldering iron. heres goes nothing. wish me luck i hope to be ready for a big toy run in the morning.

If you used the line taps get rid of them and make sure they have not damaged the wire inside then solder them properly and heat shrink sleeve to insulate

Air box doesn't need to come out at all . If your referring to the front plug ,It is confined but you can get a socket in there .Click image for larger version.

Coils how many and where and where can i buy??

Sorry if i sound like an idiot but do we have three coils? And if so is there and easy way to tell which one is bad? can you buy them at a regular auto parts store?

here is whats going on any help would be greatly appreciated...

a couple moist days passed and my bike was outside and when i went to start it it wouldn't stat but after a few dry days she fired right up... during first drive after about 5 miles lost lots of power and strong fuel smell and unspent fuel coming out of exhaust ...proceeded to solder cheesy power commander wire taps and replaced the spark plugs and when she fired up all was well .....THEN as i was getting ready for a nice sized local toy run i fired her up was idling and sounding great then about two minutes in she started with the same symptoms... i am thinking with the clearly visible unspent fuel that one cylinder must be not firing which means one of the coils right? but trying to figure out if i need to order parts or if they are something i can buy any where and if i can get it back on the road today . and how to figure it out ??

removed the power commander and went back to stock and running smooth but fuel mixture is off but likely it was the power commander... took it for a little ride(that was helpful)... going to order cobra power pro and take it apart one more time. i could probably remove everything and put it together in my sleep now...

The cobra powerpro is now installed and was an easy install without removing airbox this time... The bike has smoothed out dramatically. i had a power commander III usb in there for two or three years years and was always quirky with the usb connection and i never had it professionally tuned. I only used the maps available on their website which were never the perfect setup i either could select stock exhaust or stock intake and i had neither. I have a holley mod intake and sideburner pipes and all i rode for about 45 miles today 2up right after install and wow the thing is so smooth its like a different bike. It went from being very jumpy to crazy smooth throttle response i can let go of throttle and get right back in without any surging like before. Cant wait to ride solo... I also just replaced tires and brake pads and spark plugs. went with a 160/260 metzeler combo and man thats a huge difference too, pegs dont scrape, i dont hit the ramp on way in shed, i can get the lift under the bike without putting the front tire up on a block of wood and its way smoother on the road. It feels like a different bike(the bikes lowered 2 ")..... Very happy so far

Glad you like the way the PowrPro works. I've not had a single issue with mine and it runs great, very smooth and responsive. Hope this fixes all your problems with starting too.
