I just got my 9 last month and it came with a stock rear 240. want to go wider. Who has the best 280 tire that wont slide?

If you are thinking of porting on a 280, I'd suggest bumping up to a 10 inch rear rim. For a stock rim, you can go 250 dunlop, 250 avon, and 260 metzeler. I'd stay away from b
Vee rubber.

You have made the simplest formula for this question! And I'll back you up, I am pricing a 10" wheel and tire package= $2600. Add $800 or more for a swing arm to go 300 rear.

Metz 280/35/18. If you don't mind spending the money on a tire that don't last much longer then 8 or 9,000 miles. I got a hell of a stack of 280's.

I jumped to a 265/35/18 car tire
Next one I'm going to try is a 275/45/18. See if I can get better gas mi.

Mind you I did go throw two Metz a year at $280.00 a pop.

I ran that 280 set up for all of five years and had no prob. Grabs real good in rain as well.
And it was on a stock rim. To run that set up you have to run 48 to 52 psi or the big peace of rubber will give and do the funky ware on the sides of the tire. If you not going to run the set up with the psi, DON'T RUN IT.

Or you can spend 2 3,000 on the sweet set up the guys are talking above.

I think it depends on what type of riding and how you ride. But living in FL i would think the E3 250 would be the best choice. They last longer and cost less.

I'll repeat what I have said before - running that high tire pressure (almost 30% higher than the manufacturer's max PSI) is unsafe. It's a blowout waiting to happen. While it worked for you, Dave, I really don't think that you should recommend it to others. Just my two cents...

Not neccessarily. You can remove the brake rotor and deflate the tire to remove and install the wheel. I"m not trying to negate your point of it being a pain to do, but there is an easier way.

There is a benefit. It rides lots better for the person that sports the corners. You can lie the bike down lots farther and be safe. Not pulling your bike out of a ditch.

True dat! The Dunlop 250 is a bit wider than the Metzeler 260. That is because, through the years, any Metz. I ran was always smaller than a tire from another manufacturer of the same size. Also the Dunlop is going to last longer than the Metz. I almost have 7,000 on mine now, and it's still got tread for another two thousand easy. It is not as sticky as the Metz., but we have no curvy roads here in Oklahoma worth riding on, so it's not important. I've ridden on rainy days and not had any problems at all. I'll be ordering another one some time next year. Love the Dunlop E3, looks good performs well, and it's way cheaper than the others.

Of the 3, which is the widest when mounted on a stock rim, and is it as sticky as the stock rubber, and what kind of duration could you expect from it? I don't remember any undue amount of slippage on the original tire, (handling/performance) wise,and i think i would remember to since I've only had it 4 months, (4200 mi) but this thing is WORN OUT already, which seems unreasonable to me.?. Anyway,,i don't want to sacrifice performance necessarily, but I'd like to get as wide as possible with higher mileage, and good stick,, anyone familiar with all 3? If so, you may hold the keys to the kingdom around here !!
