Question Replacing my Clutch after 40K ...

Ok so I am replacing my clutch... and we dropped the oil before opening the case... but there was suspiciously very little oil in the clutch itself. I am using Repsol 10 40 4t Racing oil... everything looks good... but the clutch itself looks oil starved... more wear on one side of the plates that the other and my steels were blue from heat... and there were wear marks on the steel. I wasn't gonna replace the steels but I am now. Any merit or reasoning to installing the newer Clutch Basket with more holes. I know that I have seen several threads about this but digging through the massive amount of data on here is well... taking more time than I have. I am a Chaplain with Downed Biker Association and I have a run coming up and my bike is clutch less. So any help figuring this out would be appreciated.

That's the story with our 9's . Hardly any oil gets to them. There is the push pin mod here. were ya grind down 3 sides of it a little to let more oil in. Just use the search here and it should come up..

Impressive, 40k on stock clutch. I changed mine out at 17k.

Yeah I kept waiting for trouble and what it finally did was interesting... it was fine at low speeds but when I got up around 45 and tried to get to highway speed... rolling on the throttle would produce a great big rev lots of noise and RPM and no go... it eventually would speed up but it took awhile... didn't really matter what gear... just no top end response at all. But it gave me a good run considering most 9's had problems way before 40K. Just kinda sucks to be down right now with this being one of the busiest times in the riding season.

Half Dome did you replace the Clutch Basket with the newer one or do any other mods when you did your clutch? How many miles do you have on your new one? Any problems yet? Just curious.

Good to see you still here Eyeless... I have been busy... I started up on Facebook and well lets just say that I have more than enough to keep me busy, between that and BFC, and Downed Biker Association... keeps me going much of the time. Glad your clutch is holding up pretty well. Mine just finally hit the point where it was getting dangerous because I didn't have any acceleration at anything above 45. Dangerous on busy freeways. The bike still works very well other than that. i would say this... if you can have a look in the case and see if there is any oil there. Mine was almost completely dry and therefore the plates were excessively worn and the steels showed all kinds of heat related damage. They were blue and had actual burn marks.More oil would have saved it or at least preserved it a little longer.

Anyway like I said good to get to say hello again! :)

I replaced all the plates, "both types" and new springs. I also did the shift kit. I have about 14k on the new one and no problems so far.
