    Default Exhaust heat shields

    Hello,

    Do any of you wizards out there know if the large, 'curvy' rear cylinder exhaust heatshield can be separated from its 'parent' ie the wrap over, chrome exhaust cover its attached to?
    Also, what about the shorter , 6" straight fat one that fits on the next bit of pipe where the curvy one ends?
    Hope that makes sense ?

    Are you talking about the small piece that is attached on top of the larger heat shield? They are tack welded to the main shields and are hard to get off without damaging them or the pipe they are attached to. I removed the smaller one on the lower shield on one of my home made exhaust systems and drilled the weld out from inside the pipe. I needed to shorten the shield and the smaller shield on top was in the way. The rear tack weld was cut off and I just used a short chrome bolt in the hole left from the front weld.

    No, afraid not......I mean the 'parent' shields - the larger ones that support the li'l ones. If I'm understanding you right, the text in orange above is about how you took the little one off ?

    I don't know if this helps you or not. All the heat shields come off the exhaust pipes. Mostly they are held on with hose clamps, but a couple are bolted to the catalytic converter. The only things that are welded are the small add on pieces that sit on top of the longer heat shields.

    .....thinking more about this, is it possible to remove this shield without removing the whole pipe - not the 'mini' bit, the entire 6" part .....and also the bigger curvy one on the header pipe leading into it .
    They both kinda feel like they'll come away - I've even managed to sqwint up behind them & they look as if they'll clip off? ( like that other flat bolt-on shield plate that's adjacent to the pipes)
    Any idea's please anyone?
