    Default New Paint cost

What would one expect to pay to get their entire bike painted with pearl ghost flames, silver base?

Really depends on how much detail you are looking for with the new paint job...Seems like the average figure around where I live for a nice custom paint job is anywhere between $1500 to $2000...

It always helps if you have a good buddy who owns a shop and is willing to paint for you if you do all the prep work yourself...

I imagine the paint would play a part. I just had my chin spoiler and fender painted in the pearl white, the cost for 1/2 pint of that pearl white paint was $150! Luckily I am getting a good deal on the labor, but dang that paint is spendy!

I got quoted $2500 to paint mine Lambo orange with the black LE stripes painted on. Painting of the chin, the tach housing, the chrome piece on the tank and getting rid of the tank seam also included.
This at a very good quality custom shop.

I charge about $1800 for that, but like others say many factors play into it. Is the bike silver now? what type of paint? Painting any additional parts like the chrome on the headlight, the dash piece, etc.?

I'm not sure which paint he is using ( name brand) yes my bike is silver, we talked Sat and since my LED's are blue, he is thinking about using a blue pearl base and adding true ghost flames in pearl ( or sometype combo like that) and another color of silver with some pop.... no chrome is being painted... He is gonna paint my full face helment first so I can see what she will look like.. I looked at some items he has painted and OMG!!! Awesome!!! After all is said and done he is gonna charge me 600.00..( I just about fell out ).I remove all parts off of my bike.. His comment is that he could easly charge me 1500-1800 and only get my business this one time, he said " I'm not a crook" I look at the big picture and Id rather have you come back and have other items painted or your friends come by.. So tonight I start the removal process... I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

ps... this includes painting my busa cover and stealth fender from L&M....

Great deal Silverfox. It would be worth my 5 hour drive when I decide to have ghost flames done to my bike. Hope it turns out well for you. Will be waiting on the pics when finished.

Good luck, hope it turns out well for you. Materials and paint alone nearly cost me that much for my bike, around $500, at my cost and i buy from the distributor.

That's a killer deal. Hopefully it looks like you paid full price for it when it's finished. Like Joe (BlkM109r) said, that's pretty much just the cost of materials. That's the kind of deal I"d make for a close friend or family, but I'd charge about $2000.00 for that paint. Unless you've actually done them, you don't realize what a pain in the butt flames are to do. Looking forward to finished pics.

no doubt, I've spent a weekend taping off a flame job before. That's about $400 in labor alone.

If the bike is silver already and all he is doing is the pearl ghost flames and reclear, it would be much cheaper, but I'd still be at $800 to $1k even for that

I paint for a living (www.bdscycles.com) and at $600, I would be paying you to paint your bike. Most likely you'd be in the $1800 range with me too. He may not be a crook, but from the sounds of it, he's clearly not a business man, LOL.

Well that is not for me to decide... He just likes to paint and that is all I care about...because he does charge such a low price, he is covered up with work, and like I said I have seen his work and I would put him up against your 1800 paint job anytime....Im not saying ya'll can't paint.. I'd love to have B&D paint my bike...that would be awesome.. just to far away and way to expensive. I guess there is only one last thing to say.. Once bitten, twice shy...If I get a chitty job, well them oh well! I guess he will repaint my bike solid silver again or I will.. there will be no money changing hands until I am 100% satisfied!

Maybe time for a trip to alabama lol. Seriously though now you are going to make me go and talk to a custom guy near me. He originally quoted me $1200.00 for a solid color paint job, that was with him disassembling and reassemble after paint. Now have me wondering how much he would charge if I just drop him the parts

I'm sure it'll turn out just fine. some people think their time is gold for what they do and charge accordingly when in fact many others can do the same job 5 times better for 10th of the cost.

Lot of people would rather work less and charge more to make a living, so don't let what the guy's charging you determine what the outcome is gonna be like.

But then again there's that saying: you get what you pay for lol (why do i have a feeling that saying was made up by some overcharing SOB trying to justify himself?)

I agree Bro.. I'm really not worried, I have seen his work.. and all I can say is that IT POPS!!!! and some people are just jelious!! jm2c

it would be like me and window and door tech.. weather I charge you 100 an hour or do it for free you will get the same work with the same outcome!

My nephew's gonna do mine this winter for $1000, but he's not redoing all of the paint. He's gonna sand down the factory black, touch up any areas that need it, apply some coats of clear, apply dark grey ghost flames, then several coats of clear over that. That's still a lot of work though and a bargain at $1000....

I find this analogy most helpful:

"How much should I pay for a steak dinner?"

Well, let's see..... There's the Golden Corral, then there are places like Longhorns, then there's places like one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants.....

    wrong anology.

a more appropriate anology would be this:

how much should i pay for a steak dinner?

well let's see, there's Golden corral... then there are X Y and Z steakhouses that serve the same thing but charge 5 times for it.

you can argue until you're blue in the face. There are many places like yours that will charge people a lot more just to cover their overhead and line their pockets and deliver the same result, keep trying to justify it .
