    Default Vrod

So I was working in the garage today and a guy on a Vrod pulled up and said he drove by and had to come back to see my 9. We got to talking about bikes and I told him my top bikes I wanted were the m109r and Vrod muscle. He was saying how much he likes his Vrod but wanted more power and comfort and unique look. I told him the m109 was the way to go. So after a few minutes of talking and both saying our bikes would be paid off at the end of the year,he says "want to trade?" This caught me off guard. I have a 08 m109r with 8500 miles and he has a 2010 Vrod muscle with 2400 miles. I must say the kid in me that has loved the vrods since they came out and always wanted a Harley, wanted to say sure let's do it. But I really like the power, comfort and unique look of the 9. I'm torn. What do you guys think?

You're going to get a pretty biased responses on this board, so I'll start......keep the 9! The vrod is much smaller, doesn't really stand out in a crowd like a 9 does. I think the 9 is definitely more "in your face", the vrod is certainly no faster than the 9, but at the end of the day, you're the one that's gotta be happy....so if a vrod will do it for you over a 9, then go for it....just don't drink the whole glass of Harley Koolaid if you do

Haha. I wish he would race for pinks. I like both bikes but I love the look and feel of the 9. It's a good trade but at the end of the day,I want to be different. I don't see a ton of m109r's around here. I see a bunch of vrods. I'm keeping my 9 for sure but wanted to see what you guys thought.

vrod feels zingy to me, has to be in revs before it wants to pull. Just sit on it and you will see how tiny they are.
If I was 5'2" and 150 lbs................... na I would still want the 9

Agreed! You would be coming out on the better side of the deal for sure. Sell it and pocket the extra cash.

Ask him to go for a nice long ride with you swapping bikes. It'd be fun and then you'll know.

I'm sure you could sell the Vrod for more than your 9 is worth. Ride it for a bit, sell it then buy another 9 and have some modding money left over.

You never know, you may actually like it, and you still have the option to sell and get your nine money back. I actually think that for people that are used to sport bikes, the Vrod would be a better deal since the powerbands are more alike. If someone offered me that deal, I would have to do it. We will always welcome you back.

Thanks guys. I'm going to keep my nine. I like the Vrod but I love my 9. I might be able to make a couple grand out if the deal but it's not worth the hassle.

That's true, as far as the standard ROD goes. However the Muscle, has more beefyness to it.

I think the V Rods look too small, like the sportsters. I wouldn't ride one just because of how they look.

Every time I see someone on either one I just think they look silly, for a grown man anyways.

It's just the kid in me. Growing up,all I heard about was Harley this and Harley that. I really like the Vrod. It is really small compared to our bikes but I was always a fan of how the sit and ride. Can't really compare to the 9 but it was fun. I think if I ever get a Harley, it will be later in life and probably be a bagger.

I rode the Vrod. Always thought I'd like it, but alas....didn't even crack a smile. There's no throttle, it's small, it feels like you are going to go over the handle bars at any moment. It was a HUGE let down. I too grew up knowing about Harleys. My uncle owns 26, my other uncle 2 and my Dad 1 (1948 ). It's nostalgic, but eventually nostalgic will wear off their brand image and it will become viewed as a bike of the past. A stigma will attach itself to their bikes. They must find a way to combine old with the new. Vrod was a nice try, but they had to go to Porsche to do it. Sad really.....

I have to admit, I've ridden quite a few Harleys hoping that would tell me why they're so popular...and every ride does nothing but further my puzzlement...they do absolutely nothing for me...

Too bad. I've never ridden a Vrod and have always wanted to try one out. Guess I won't bother, how disappointing.

I work at a Harley dealer. We had our 2013 demo rides yesterday. I rode the muscle and nightrod 3 times each throughout the day. I had a blast on both. I am 5'7" and the nightrod fits me better than the muscle. I sit in the nightrod, much like the 9, but sit on the muscle and the bars are too far forward. Great for a taller rider, but not for us short guys. They turn on, but not til 4500rpms or so. They handle great. I really like them, but they are nothing like the 9 low end. Not even close. They shift smoothly, and look kinda cool. The thing I like best, is that even most Harley guys don't like them, because they aren't "real harleys". Lol.

They are the best bike harley has ever built, and that is because they are not like anything else harley builds. Lol

On a funny note, I had a guy come in last week, saying that a friend of his told him to come in to the dealer to see the awesome v rod with all the green skulls on it. He said it was the most awesome v rod he had ever seen, and that his buddy just had to go see it. Anyhow, buddy brought cash, and wanted to take it home that day. I took him out back and showed him my 9!! He didnt know what to say. Admitted that it was the coolest thing he had seen ,and was disappointed that is was not for sale, harley or not. Haha

Harley comes out with a new bike with better technology and much faster than anything else in the line and it's called "Not a Real Harley" by many owners. How stupid are these people? Had a Harley owner tell me that you only need enough speed to get out of the way. I told him you don't even have that.
