    Default Harley rider thanks me.

So here I am going home and I see a bike off the side of the road and a guy Kneeling beside it. I pull over to see if he needs helps. He has a 1974 Harley and he felt the injectors fouled on him because it was running very rough. He was waiting for his wife to bring some tooks so he could take a cover off and fix the issue.

I happened to have a couple with me and provided them to him. He was able to get the cover off and sure enough it was a pluged injector..

I was about to leave when he thanks me and says "I have been on the side of the road for about 20 minutes before you showed up and in that time five (5) Harley riders drove past me and didn't stop to offer assistance." He then said "They are a bunch of credit card riders". This made me laugh, so I asked him what that meant. He said "it's riders who buy their bikes with a credit card and only drive it in good weather to show off." He told me things have changed, in the old days if you saw a fellow rider on the side of the road you would stop to offer help if they needed it.

Now this guy had a few hard miles on him, and I have no doubt he is a sted fast Harley fan, but I am pretty sure he has a different opinion of the non Harley riders now.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Good on you, man. I hope most of us would do the same in that situation.

GREAT story and spoton with most HD riders today

I can see more of non-hardly riders stopping to see if they can help rether than the other way around. It sounds like they don't even support their own but who knows...

I try to help out when I find other on the side of the road. I have been broke down and I know how crappy it feels when other riders blast by like they dont care. Yes I was riding a HD when I broke down , dont rub it in. Injectors on a 74 ?

Who says Harley is behind the times? they apparantly had fuel injection in 1974!
Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Yeah that was my thought as well.

This story reminds me that I need to put some decent tools in my bike.

It was great of you to help him out, I think most on here would do that. I've been parked along the road taking a break and had some HD riders slow and ask if we needed help, so some will stop.

He must have upgraded that bike too, they didn't have fuel injection in any 1974 HD. Maybe the carb was plugged?

You never know when it might be one of us sitting on the side of the road in need of assistance. It doesn't matter what your riding, we're all 2 wheel brothers and as such, we should help out when we're able to!

    Thanks.

Ya, he said injectors. I am not a bike guy by any means, ( I take mine to a mechanic who knows what he is doing) so I couldn't tell you what he did. All I know was he took a cover off is bike and removes something. He shook it out and blew through it. It seemed to do the trick. I might have not have understood what he meant either, it was a long day for me and I was thinking of bed at the time.

I guess my reason for this post was to let everyone know that a little kindness goes a long way. I have never been in this guys situation, nor do I want to be, but it would be a nice feeling knowing somebody would be willing to stop even just to ask if everything is okay.

A good reminder to us to show that 9er love out there on the road to any and all bikers. I guess even if we are not mechanically inclined, we still may have something to offer, like you did with the tools.

He probably blew some 1974 tank rust out of his fuel filter.
Nice of you to stop and lend a hand. I always stop too, I figure it's a MC karma thing and my time will come

It's possible it was a 74 frame with a later motor.

I think one of the things that bugs me most about the Harley trend is most of the riders look like catalog riders and have to wear apperal as if they wouldn't be noticed as a rider unless they wear a Harley uniform. We all know, most are Harley "owners" and not Harley "riders" anyway.

I've been on the side of the road once or twice and it's no fun feeling stuck so I'll try to help any two wheeler, or three wheeler when possible, regardless of make.

    Cudos for the story Darkhorse.

The 1st summer I had my 9 I stopped to ask a Harley guy sitting along the road if he needed help...said he didn't so I went about my business....don't know if he appreciated me stopping or not, but I felt good about it...

My fathers side of the family have been riding motorcycles since they were
pretty much invented, kinda in the blood so to speak. I always stop to help
out a fellow biker and if I didn't and the fam found out they would not be
    happy with me.
