Do you find you drag the hardware almost anywhere on this thing(M109R), even intersections?

I say this because I was going to hold off on lowering to retain corner clearance etc but man, I find myself grinding pegs way to often at stock height that I might as well lower it if I have to park it in corners to get it to not drag pegs....

I thought about lowering as well as big as I am (6'4", 260lbs). Recently coming from a sport bike to this bruiser I still have sport bike turning habits at times. It's strange, I can do a good speed turn with no problem but if I'm making a left turn from a light, I almost scrape pegs every time.

it's just a matter of changing your riding style and getting used to the 109. it is a different style of bike and lots of people tend to forget that it is a cruiser, and although a very powerful one, it does have it's limitations.

Yes...and especially for you coming off of a Sportbike it's gonna be a bit more of a shock to your system. My suggestion is:

    - Don't lower your bike
    - Ride off the saddle in the corners and keep the bike as vertical as you can for more ground clearance.

But even doing those suggestions your still gonna scrape pegs or the frame of the bike. lol

Here's one of my oldie but goodie ride videos. Titanium will fly off this bike in the curves. But it's still fun to ride. Just roll with it and enjoy scraping pegs.

Yes. But it does get better once you figure out the acceptable lean angle. My first corner on the 9 was a peg scraper. I think I'm going to retro fit some titanium feelers on my Dually ISO pegs before I grind them all the way off!

When you recorded your videos, did you use a gopro and the suction cup mount?

I'm ground 1/2" into the pegs. No feelers.

so true, after being on a street bike for some time i was scraping pegs left and right ... i totally had to change my riding style and it worked... now with 2inch lower and 40 extra lbs around the beer area :) i hardly ever scrape the pegs ... i miss my ninja every now and then but enjoy every sec of the 9 ...

I already ride off the saddle and feel funny doing it but I guess it's what needs to happen....

Not in almost 3yrs it hasn't. As long as your bike is clean of dirt & your mounting it on any flat surface that mount has the suction cup "lock" and it doesn't go anywhere.

Nope it's not just you...pretty much everybody scrapes pegs, header pipes, bike frame on this bike in the corners. Just the way that it is.

Yup coming off a sportbike is a hard transition. There were no chicken strips on my sportbike tires and I drag so hard in the corners I went through the feelers and into the pegs on the 9. I was actually thinking of raising the rear an inch to get better cornering clearance, but I have been after comfort more lately.

I would end up dragging my pipes on my 90. I would always get comments on no bitch strips on my tires and wondering how I never low sided it when I would end up out on the shoulder of the tires. Atleast at that point the ground isn't too far away. Nothing like getting a handful of throttle when you are in the apex of a corner and feeling that rearend plant itself

Air ride (Arnott) might help it did for me .It gave me about that inch more height that I needed to keep off the pegs so much.Gregg

I originally had a sport bike (CBR1000RR) and I've never dragged the pegs on the 9. Here's the thing though. I wear a size 18 shoe and it's also a size or two wider. So, I end up dragging my shoe on the ground instead of the peg.

It seems like I grind a lot when I make a left hand turn. I rode my cousins ZX6r last week and there is no way I could go back to a crotch rocket.

Same here! Once I got past a certain point on the pegs it doesnt scrape as often, and like the rider with the size 18 shoes the heals of my boot are my new bank sensors. I purchased a set of stock sensors for my ride to deals gap, came back with out them, decided that I wasn't going to put any more on there.

9's can outhandle their clearance all the time. be it off a stop sign, or a buck 20 in a corner. it's just what the beast does. i wouldn't lower mine, maybe air ride for the best of both worlds though.

I came off an R1 and I've scraped the pegs a few times. Been concentrating a bit more on my turns but it takes time to change riding styles. At least for me.

For those guys that grind pegs or take turns more aggressively, does anyone know how close you are to coming off the tread of the rear tire when the pegs are grinding? I'm just curious because I'm looking to put a 10" wide rear on my bike soon with a 280 tire and I also grind from time to time at stock height and was curious, will I be putting myself at risk of losing the rear end due to the relatively flat nature of the rear tire and the lean angle. Any insight?

You will have to relearn the lean when you change, same as when lowering, but you'll be in no more danger than you are now IMO. I'm speaking only from watching friends go from the 240 to 280 wider tires, I've only lowered mine and gone to the 250 dunnie for now.
