    Default A new clutch question

    Gentlemen,
    spent a few days parusing the forums and still need help. You see, y'all are talking about fixing what appears to be the inherent clutch problems the 9 came with. My case however involves some poor judgement and an apparent lack of skill. Just before the new 260 went on the back, I set up the cameras and attempted a burn out. It is with great embarrassment that I tell you I was unsuccessful and You Tube viewers will have to settle with "First second third then oops" video for a little while longer. To add insult to injury, my clutch now slips when I shift under HARD acceleration and does it in all gears. At as easy or moderate twist of the wrist, she seems ok (for now). Dealer quoted upwards of 6-7 hundred so I really need to do this on my own. Would greatly appreciate any advise under this particular situation (kit? replace all the plates? simple adjustment?) and will humbly accept the ribbing that comes with a failure of such unmanly proportions as this.

    Well don't let us scare you away, you knew you were gonna take a few hits for this! Anyway welcome to the site and hopefully we can help you out. By the way there was a reason I asked if you had video, it might help diagnose your problem which I'm sure is just a burnt up clutch.

    This bulletin is to inform you of a modification to the clutch cable play adjustment procedure.
    Due to the high engine torque and heavy vehicle weight of the VZR1800, correct clutch cable
    play adjustment is important to prevent clutch slippage, particularly under heavy load. Inspect
    and adjust the clutch cable play during pre-delivery inspection and periodic maintenance using
    the following procedure. Insert a copy of each of the attached pages in your dealership's
    VZR1800 Service Manual at the appropriate page.

    Thanks guys, will follow up on recent advice stevem. Have the manual already and some previously posted procedures to work with Big-B. Just figured out how to upload 'signature' photo latinrascal...may take a day or two to do the same with my filme-noir of the burn out attempt.

    After you have adjusted everything , if it still slips
    you might want to go in there and see the interns .

    While you are in there it would be a great time to mod the push pin
    flat on 2 sides , to never worry about ever getting clutch shudder.

    takes you to the " loosened tubular nut " but from your description
    I think you only smoked some plates ,
    or have the clutch cable too tight , but sounds more like the clutch plates ,

    I would recommend what Kazimodo suggested and while your in there take preventive measures to help bullet proof your clutch as much as presently possible by taking it all the way down to the tube nut and redoing it from there to include the new wave washer and seat plate as well as doing the push pin mod. It's only gonna cost you a few bucks more for parts at this point and it seems more likely then not you will experience the clutch shudder if left as is so might as well be proactive with it if you can. I would also highly recommend the factory pro shift star unless you have a newer model(2012 I believe) that already has a similar type already installed
