    Default Close call last night!

My daughter asked me if I could go grab a friend of hers from across town ... I thought, well I wanted to go for a ride anyways, may as well just take the bike. I get dressed and ready to ride, just before I get on the bike we get the call that plans have changed and I no longer need to grab the friend. Since I am all dressed I decide what the hell, I will go for a quick burn. Take off the backpack with the extra helmet, gloves, jacket and head off to the garage.

At the bottom of my street is a park and a blind corner where this arsehole lives. The corner is about 30km/hr and as I am rounding the corner the arsehole darts out of his driveway in reverse right in front of me. Soon as I see him, I am leaning a bit here, I hit my rear brake hard. Tire grabs and I slide a bit, release the brake, get the bike upright and straight (lucky no one was coming the opposite way) apply both brakes, clutch and gear down to first from second. Stop the bike and look right and say WTF DUDE! Well, I said it to myself because the arsehole didnt even stop to make sure I was ok, just sped off down the road. He was either drunk or scared because when he hit the 4 way stop he didnt use his signal and took off like a bat out of hell.

I just turned the bike around and went home and kissed my bike and wife (In that order)

Funny thing about it was, I never knew how I would handle myself when I had to react quick ... no adrenalin boost and no sick feeling in my stomach, just got bike bike straight and said in my head "Wow, that was close" ... You know that the safety course works when you can handle a situation like that and your body just reacts.

I know this will not compare to some of your close calls but this was my first.

Glad you made it ok. Now go to hardware store and get a box of screws and spread it all over his driveway.

With my luck they would just end up in my tires!

Anytime I talk to people about riding motorcycles and accidents the first thing I always tell them is that as the rider, you shouldn't panic. If you can teach yourself not to panic then you'll be alright. I've watched two people go down because they panic and lock up the front break and take themselves down.

I don't like arseholes for sure and they are out there. They don't pay attention to anything and the world be damned you look out for them. I see it all the time. Biker clipping along on the interstate. Lots of lane changes but not being stupid and there is always one cager that is gonna put a stop to it. Cut them off or something.

OK, what's an arsehole? Is that like an ass hole? Anyway, I'm glad you're ok and I would def be paying that ASS HOLE a visit!

IT'S NOT ABOUT HOW FAST YOU GET THERE, IT'S ABOUT THE RIDE ITSELF. TAKE YOUR TIME AND ENJOY IT!!

I can tell you from personal experience it is best to let it go and not confront the a$$ hole. Situations like that rarely end well. I simply note it and move on, why waste any more of my valuable to me time on a person who is not valuable to me......

I'm glad you're ok too, first of all. I would agree with Big B for two reasons. You have to go that way every day and its on your street, so he's a neighbor, even if he isn't right next door. Nobody said you had to go down there confrontational but definitely get it across that by just pulling out of his driveway in your path, he's posing a serious danger that can affect you, your family, and your friends. I HATE stupid drivers who have no regard for anyone else on the road.

You don't want to be locking the back brake. The back tire is what keeps you straight. The other day I was in the same thing. Come around a back road corner and had a farmer on my inside corner waiting to dot across the street to go into a field. I laid on the front brake and was able to go around him. If I had to I would of stopped if he crossed. I think he could hear me coming. I could see he was waiting. Every corner you got to be ready for anything.

Glad you got out of it un-skaved.

No harm in talking to him if you think he would listen but if you think he is too far into ******* land then better just be more weary of him. if hes d&d and your sure of it I say report his ass before he kills somebody, yeah call me a stitch but my family and friends are not safe with that on the roads and besides he wants to be an Ahole if you can't talk to him he deserves it outright! You know that saying that most accidents happen within 5 minutes from home , the area most people feel the most comfort so they tend to let their guard down, glad you kept the bike up and didn't get hurt!

I'd be glad to just make it around the guy. Lots of people get upset. Not I. I just live and learn.

You don't know the other persons intent. He could of looked and did not see you. Maybe he didn't want to deal with a bad azz biker. You probably scared the crap out of him. lol.

Just move on and be glad you missed him.

I was pissed the night it happened but I am past it now, just glad I reacted right and did not bail.

Just goes to show you that it can happen at anytime and at any speed, you need to keep your head and watch your everyone around you.
