Thread: My Barnett Clutch Cable Broke Last Night.

    Default My Barnett Clutch Cable Broke Last Night.

    I installed a 3+ Barnett clutch cable last summer. It just broke on me last night. Wish they tested their stuff a little better....
    I haven't taken it apart yet to see precisely where it broke yet. I'll post a pic when I do.
    Had to have it towed back home. :(

    I have to say, it broke when in second moving to third, and the traffic was moving, so I was lucky. Would hate to think of what the outcome could have been if I was down shifting towards a car or something....

    I thought I read a thread that said they made new ones, to fix this breaking problem... I bought mine last summer though, so I would have thought I got one of those.

    the damn cable broke after only a year ? man, i would be on the phone with barnett NOW, i hear there is a Gen4 version so maybe you can parlay your complaint into a replacment....glad your alright bro

    Do yourself a favor and order a new cable from Motion Pro.

    Just a question but its one I don't think has been asked or answered before but how difficult is it to just go to local bike shop and pick up some new cable and barrels to just fix it instead of buying a whole new cable?

    Ya, that's what I was going to do. Good advice. Went to their site though. Can't seem to find the specific 3+ stainless stranded cable (to match the rest on my bike) that I should order. Do I have to call them to get it. Their online store doesn't seem to spell it out.

    I've never heard of fixing them, but I would rather buy one. This clutch is pretty strong, I wouldn't want to risk it on a home made one. That being said, I've never looked into it, so who knows.

    as soon as i get a few extra bucks i am doing the Revo Hydraulic clutch mod..
    screw the cable all together..

    Barnett has discontinued the cables for the M109, due to constant failure which they blame on the fact that the clutch lever design puts too much force on the end of the cable. Motion Pro is what i have, but either one you need to Lubricate inside the cable when you install it. This cuts down friction and prevents disaster.

    where did it break up by the lever, where Barnett say's the problem is? OR down on the engine were I broke 2?

    So Motion Pro has none in stock for 4 or 5 weeks. Barnett stopped making them.
    Anyone know where I can find a realiable 3+ stainless braided clutch cable??

    Okay. I didn't want to wait for Motion Pro stock to come in by the end of the summer, so I found a manufacturer who took my 3+ clutch cable housing and made a new cable to go in it.
    This one is great. It's a thicker stronger stainless steel cable, with stronger stainless ends.
    This one won't break, and it cost me a whole $30.00
    I'm happy. !

    That's good news, maybe more members will read this and see that repairing these broken cables is the way to go when your decides to break. Thanks for posting. Maybe post up the info to the shop you used to repair your cable for the guys that are local to you.

    It's important to note, that this isn't a do it yourself repair. It's was done by a manufacturer that only makes cables.
    I wouldn't want to repair this type of cable on this bike with any repair kits out there.

    Mod's
    De-badged, Throttle lock\Cruise, Brake Pedal adjustment, Drilled out baffles on pipes,
    backrest mod. De-beavered, and polished wheels from Gottatooz.
