The best thing you can do is use a tripod or set your camera on the hood of a car, or picnic table or something to keep it steady. That dark at night its going to take a slow shutter speed in order to soak up all the light; and low shutter speeds equal alot of camera shake and blurriness.

Or to get a bit more technical:
If its just a regular point and shoot camera set it to a candle setting or night time setting (usually a picture of a moon).
If its a bigger DSLR camera, you need to put it in "aperture priority" (the big A on the settings) mode and set your aperture probably around 4-8 and then let the camera figure out the rest.

Bernie, no matter what you do you will not get great pictures if you are touching the camera when you do it. You can either set the timer, or hook up with me and we can do it. I have a remote trigger software that hooks into the camera. I can then view live on the laptop, make appropriate changes, and take the picture, never touching the camera after I get it focused.

Thanks Harris. You'd think as much crap as I do w/ a camera, I'd be schooled at this. Just haven't had the time to sit and play w/ it. I did manage this last night w/ my cell phone

Looks good. Funny thing is that if you don't know how to use the dslr, the cell phones will take better pictures in this envirionment.

Sad thing is, I used to be real good w/ my digi, like I said, just haven't had the time. Looks like it's time to get reacquainted.

Definitely! There is alot of learning with DSLR's, that is for sure. I am taking mine and my laptop and mess with Mary's bike over the weekend.
