Default Shoei Quest vs. Shoei GT Air

Anyone ride a naked bike with no windscreen and have tried both these helmets? I am torn between which one would be quietest on my m109r without a windshield. I want the full face helmet with a Scala Rider installed to talk to my brothers when we ride together. My current helmet I can't hear them clearly at speeds beyond 80kms an hour.

Any feedback would be great, thanks.

    Default Qwest Owner

I have owned a Shoe Qwest since 2011. I fitted the TORK speakers http://www.torkworld.com/helmet-spea...-elements.html to my Bluetooth unit and have had to lower the volume on my phone. With the windscreen its a pain in the cornholio, I was getting quite significant wind buffet onto the helmet but it did the same with my Bell Rogue. Without the windscreen the Qwest is a little bit noisy but it is comfortable and have on several occasion ridden over 900 kilometers in a day with this helmet. It has good vision, is light and this is my seventh shoei now and i really like it.

I remember when I used to go to Jamaica, all the Canadians were naked on the beach.....guess they let you ride naked up there too? Seems like it would be kinda cold up North so far.

    I really like pictures ROFL......

Seems to me that riding naked would be kinod of risky if you go down. Think of the road rash.

Good video, I have seen this one before, it's a little old. I tried on the scuberth c3 pro at the recent motorcycle show it was crazy tight to wear no matter what size I tried.

GT-Air! I have never tried the Quest, and I use the GT-Air with a Vstream windscreen. But I can tell you the GT-Air is really easy to hear people talking with my scala packtalk and previously scala G9. I can listen to the radio or an audiobook while cruising down the highway no problem. The GT-air has built in speaker recesses for the scala that work great. I don't think the quest has them. They make installing the scala very easy and makes it so you cant even feel the speakers. If you get it, it comes with covers for the speaker holes that you remove to install the speakers, Rip the foam off the back and reinstall them to cover the speakers so they don't rub on your ears. Also the GT-Air has a built in sun visor which is a must for me. Its flows a ton of air as well, So much so that my hair forms "corn rows" after riding with the vents open, I don't usually get hot in it. I have to close the vents when riding on cooler nights because otherwise the top of my head will get cold. It is a really well designed helmet.

Do you use a helmet Cam? I really want it all! Also how many riders at one time can you get on your com-system, and do you know the distance?

There was one com review that could take 4 riders and the distance was far, until out if sight, hmm I'd have to check to see what YouTube I was watching for the brand, but do most com take 4 or more riders?

If you're saying no matter what size feels tight, do you have a long oval head maybe?

I have a head shaped right out of aliens

Long and oval and all helmets are tight on my forehead

I got the Arai Signet Pro Tour which is built for the long oval head and it fits perfect and very comfortable, light and being an Arai it's top of the line for safety

It's high end and not cheap but look at some reviews.

    https://rideapart.com/articles/review-signet-q-pro-tour

It's rated as one of the quietest when vents are closed. Vents worked awesome for the one day I rode when it was actually warm out and were amazing.

Also has speaker pockets built in

I sometime stick a gopro on the top of my helmet, but not that often. The scala packtalk can connect up to 15 riders at a time. They will work in a chain so if say 4 riders are really spread out the signal from the back riders will bounce through the other riders up to the front and vice versa. They say it will go up to 8 kilometers if you have 5 or more riders spread out in a daisy chain but I've never gotten that spread out. Otherwise range is about a mile as long as you have line of sight. It drops some distance if you go over a hill or around a mountain or something. Best part about them is once you and your friends are in a pack, there is no further pairing at all. As long as you are in range of someone in your pack you can talk to them, no button pressing, no trying to pair up, just get in range and talk. HUGE improvement and the way helmet communications all should be! I've been riding through town and had my buddy going the other way say Hi to me when we just happened to see each other out on the road, we had a little conversation before we went out of range of each other again, its awesome. Fast too, as soon as you turn them on you can talk to people around you. You can also have music or GPS playing in the background via bluetooth and still talk at the same time works great when one person is navigating and can listen to GPS and relay directions to the group at the same time. Another awesome thing, is if you are in a group of say 5 bikes, and two of them split off to head home. The two that split can continue to talk to each other and the other three that stay together can talk to each other seamlessly, no need to re-pair or reconnect devices. It just works.

If you had to choose again what helmet cam to pick which would it be? I can get a simple 4K included with the purchase of a helmet with a 34 gb card, and blue tooth capable, Im thinking that is a small card? What kind is yours? Any tips on helmet cams much appreciated.

Okay, know I can get some comparisons, did you pay a lot for your set up? And will these fit on the shoei helmets as well, or only selected types?

To be honest, I won mine at an IT trades how, I think at the time it was worth around 200. Search for gopro model comparison on Google and you should find lots of info to make a decision. I used the two sided tape and mounted mine to the top of my helmet. It works great.

Okay, thanks, great tip about the tape. Still the shoei quest and the shoei GT Air look like about the best so far, there's just too many lids out there, getting best bang for buck causes for great delay to choose? Other brands have popped into the choices as well.
