Default Tires that last more than 5k miles?

I've gone through three sets of tires in 15k miles on my 9 and the last set of E3's lasted only 5k miles and im bald up front and showing cords in back... What would be my best bet for a decent handling tire than i can get a bit better mileage from?

Not sure any tire can do any better. Dunlop has been the mileage tire of what I read about. I have 7,800 miles on my original and still going. I've heard guys that only do 3,000, so you're not bad, really.

i was afraid of that :| my sport bikes in the past i could easily get 10k miles out of a set of fairly soft rubbers, i guess the 800 pounds of metal on this 109 aides in the wear of the tire a bit heh. What is the best tire for the 9 now? When i got my E3 i enjoyed it quite a bit but im thinking of going with something different just to see if there is any noticeable difference.

I've run the Dunlop E3, Avon Cobra and the Mezteler ME880. The Dunlop lasts the longest, but has a flat profile in the middle, and has the least grip of the 3. The Metzeler is the stickiest, nice round profile, but wears out faster. The avon is an excellent tire, and a happy medium betwen the other two. IT's stickier than the Dunlop, but lasts longer than the MEtz. Nice round profile, and a very well made tire.

I'm no expert there...other guys will chime in, or you can search...there's always a post ongoing about tires.

I believe that the only way to get better mileage on a tire is to lay off the gas and the turns. I had e3 and all I got was 5500 miles on it. You might also check the air pressure some say if you run 35lbs instead of 42lbs you get better mileage on the tire. I'm trying that theory on my 280 tire now.

I have one hell of a stack of tires and tired of buying them. I slipped over to the dark side with a car tire on the back. Took a little getting use to. And now lets just say i'm not going back. 7,000 miles on the back tire and its not even close to half gone.

I also found one of the better tires to run in front is the Bridgestone two compound tire. The middle is much harder being we ride that the most and the side much more softer for the corners. It also works well with the flat car tire on the back. Its holding up much better.

Others that have jumped to the dark side where saying they where eating up the front tire.

Its good to have all the options.

The tire is a 265/35/18 rear at $191.00 and the front is a 150/60/18. At this point i'm back to dragging pin and keeping up with the bast of them. I'm hoping for 30,000 + on the rear.

This is currently 15,780 Kilometers, the back is munted because a douche bag hit me in the back sliding me ontot he road...

Nevertheless the car tyre has had many many burnouts and hard launches and just over 15 thousand kays.

Tires that go on Harley's usually last a lot longer than 5,000 miles. Only setback is that you own a Harley.

Only reason for that is the H.D'S only put 5,000 miles in three years

That's why they last so long. lol

Dave, does that handle differently turning left than it does turning right? Being as it's asymmetrical it looks like it would handle differently.

a tyre is a tyre, the cornering has no difference due to tread pattern.

i'll never go back to a car tyre

That is what I was told too. I mentioned to a friend that my rear tire have gone bald in the center and the edges still have lots of threads left. he mentioned about having less pressure in the tire than recommended to even off the wear.
But, not sure if 36 in the front for the size of the front tire and 36 at the rear for such a bigger size is okay.

The book calls for 36/42...think your rear is too low.
