    Default Mod Time

Well I bit the bullet last week and ordered a TRE (Track Day), Cobra FI2000 (Ebay), K&N filters (Direct Line), HID headlight (A&R), Drive Shaft Plate Mount (Ebay) and an integrated tail light (Ebay). I had previously installed a set of Road Burner Large Radius pipes about 3 weeks ago. I found time to install the TRE, FI2000 and headlight a few days ago and thanks to all the great info on this site, the installs went really well. Only hiccups I had were that after installing the TRE and FI2000 I put everything back together to make sure the bike would run and it did. I then went to tackle the headlight and found I needed to remove the tank again to run the power wire, luckily it's an easy job. Only other thing was that somehow one of the side bolts on the headlight stripped out when I removed it and wouldn't go back in. Luckily I have a tap and die set so I cleaned the threads with that and it was good to go. Unfortunately I haven't had time to ride it since, but I can tell you it sounds like a new machine and the throttle response seems WAY better. I am hoping to install the tail light and filters on Saturday and then hit the highway for a cruise so I will report back then on my feelings on the mods. I will also post some pics once the last pieces go on. Thanks again to everyone that contributes here as it made my life A LOT easier on the installs. Hopefully I can contribute in some way to help others as well.

One quick question for those that know is that my FI2000 has nowhere for me to adjust the settings? Is that the way the new model is or did I get suckered into purchasing an inferior model?

And FYI: for those that haven't removed their tank yet, I simply removed the rear tank bolt and then lifted it and wedged a 3/4 ratchet wrench (length wise) in between the bottom of tank and the battery tray. I didn't have any help and this gave me the room I needed to disconnect the fuel lines. Did the same thing on the way back on and it went better than can be expected.

What model FI2000 did you buy? If you bought the power pro, there are no adjustments. It's auto tuning.

If you have the older model, it has a little cover that pops off and the adjustment pods are under it.

They also make a California version F2000 which looks exactly like the three pod adjustable with the cover. But, when you remove the cover there are no adjusting screws. My buddy's bike had one on it when he bought it.

Ha Ha! Yeah well, it was a bit crazy moving a couple of states and settling into a new job. I'm getting into a groove, now. Reno is surprisingly pretty awesome! Loving the weather. Lake Tahoe is phenomenal. Couple that with the 10 mile ride into work everyday and it all makes for good mojo.

I'm sure I'll be missing AZ in February when the snow is piling up, but for now, the cool mornings, warm days, and breezy evenings are spectacular.

I need to hook up with some riders here before it turns cold.

If you have a California model FI2000(not PowerPro) then you do have adjustments. You can get the instructions off the Cobra website.

That information would be available where specifically? I just looked at the Cobra website and the instructions for this Fi2000 is as follows:

    ADVANCED TUNING
The Fi2000R-ARB module works differently than previous Fi2000 products in that it is designed to meet emissions levels for on road use of your vehicle.
All adjustments and settings are performed within the microprocessor of the Fi2000R-ARB and there is no customer interface. (bolded for emphasis)
In standard cruise mode, the motorcycle retains the stock, proper air-fuel ratio as it was designed from the original manufacturer. The Fi2000R-ARB only adjusts fuel mixture during hard acceleration and on top end power and then the proper amount of fuel to ensure best drivability and performance within acceptable emission ranges.
These settings have been tested for stock motorcycles that have popular aftermarket exhaust systems installed.

Am interested in this ability to tune as my friend has this controller and would like to add more fuel.

    Thanks,

    Matt

I stand corrected. I was sure I had the ARB module. Guess I was smart enough(or dumb enough) to buy the other model.

No worries. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a way to adjust that thing. BTW, his bike, though mostly stock, runs fantastic on that module. So, they have done well figuring out whatever the best all around setting is. I would bet it is very close to the recommended positions for the 3-pot version; you just can't add anymore fuel to potentially further damage California's beautiful air.

Well I finally got a chance to put 250 miles on the bike yesterday with the new mods and all I can say is WOW. The bike responds like a monster now and has awesome power through every gear. I was out riding with 2 buddy's and I could walk away from them in any gear like they were standing still. The bad news is that with doing the TRE and FI2000 at the same time, I'm not sure which one did what, but with the 2 combined I could not be happier. I had my wife on the back and even with the 2 of us on it, it pulled us up to 120 MPH on more than one occasion without any hesitation and I only let off then because I could feel the wife getting nervous. The HID headlight also throws WAY more light and was well worth the investment. I was stoked when I got home so I cracked a beer and de-beavered it and added the integrated tail light. K&N filters go on tomorrow and hopefully I can get out for a couple more rides before the snow flies.

Finally got some pics with the new mods. Unfortunately the snow fell early here this year so my riding is done until spring. It's going to be a LONG winter!!
